Nasom receives RM20,000 from sales of bracelets

PETALING JAYA, Sept 14 (Bernama) — The producer of the film ‘Air Force The Movie: Selagi Bernyawa’,  Multimedia Entertainment today handed over a contribution of RM20,000 to the National Autism Society of Malaysia (Nasom) to support efforts to create community awareness on autism.

The contribution is from the sales of bracelets made by autistic children under the association for the public in several special screenings of the movie since Aug 25.

It was presented by Multimedia Entertainment Group managing director Datuk Steven Lim to Nasom president Datuk Megat Ahmad Shahrani Megat Sharudin and was witnessed by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Steven said the contribution is part of the company’s corporate responsibility initiative to the local community.

“This is an effort from us to raise acceptance, awareness and support of the people on autism syndrome,” he told reporters during a special screening of the movie Air Force The Movie: Selagi Bernyawa here tonight.

Meanwhile, Khairy said tonight’s event was a symbol of love and appreciation for families with autistic children.

“I understand the bracelets produced were inspired by a scene in the film through the character of Mejar Adnan played by Datuk Adi Putra who has an autistic child.

“I am also announcing tonight that we all who are wearing the bracelets from the children should be celebrated. I also have an autistic child but he could not be present as he was in no mood. So his siblings represented him,” he said.

The special show was attended by 170 people including Khairy’s wife, Nori Tun Abdullah as well as children, parents and staff of Nasom apart from a line-up of actors and actresses including Aiman Hakim Redza, Nas T, Sara Ali, Iman Corinne and Carmen Soo.

The film directed by Zulkarnain Azhar and Frank See is about a Special Air Team (Paskau) headed by Captain Adib and his mentor Mejar Adnan in a humanitarian rescue mission in Namburi, a country in turmoil. The film had succeeded in collecting more than RM28 million after playing for 21 days.
