BUTTERWORTH, The Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) plans to partner even more higher learning and research institutions to organise commercialisation workshops.
MTDC coaching, incubation, commercialisation and entrepreneurship division director, Mariamah Daud, said several institutions have expressed a desire to partner MTDC for the long term.
“They have seen the benefit of this workshop. For example, after we had a workshop with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), their commercialisation rate rose along with their belief in the MTDC programme.
“Now, we regularly collaborate on workshops. UMP is able to acknowledge it is a good programme because it has seen its effectiveness,” she said at a press conference following the launch of the MTDC Road2Growth programme today.
She said MTDC has been working with UMP for five years now and this year it will work jointly with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) .
“We’ve got an outline for four mini-commercialisation workshops per year for the four universities, which would mean 16 specialised workshops. We expect to train 120 to 160 lecturers or researchers,” Mariamah said.
With regard to the Road2Growth programme which is in its fourth year, Mariamah said Penang is the first northern region location for the event which will feature a new concept to get students, academics, small-and-medium enterprise (SME) businesspeople, as well as the public, involved.
Six programmes have been lined up for its two-day length, including a mini technology challenge, mini technology transfer and commercialisation workshop, mini business acceleration workshop, technology product pitching, an Industry 4.0 workshop and a mini interview session.
The MTDC Road2Growth 2019 programme is free and open to all including entrepreneurs, researchers, creators and state officials tasked with entrepreneur development.
MTDC’s next session is from March 11 to 12, and in the southern region.
