GEORGE TOWN, Aug 8 (Bernama) It all started when single mum, Mahani Udit, 30, sewed Jalur Gemilang dresses for her twins for a ‘best patriotic outfit’ competition at their kindergarten in 2015.
Many of the parents and teachers were impressed and wanted to order an outfit for the National Month and Hari Malaysia.
I wasn’t a full-time tailor then and just sewed clothes for the children, Mahani told Bernama.
However, every year since then, she’s received more and more orders for the outfits priced between RM70 and RM250 depending on the size and pattern.
The now full-time tailor sewed 1,000 national flag outfits last year and is looking forward to taking more orders this year.
The mum-of-three has a boutique she opened in 2016 called Anggerik Rimba Alteration in a mall in Bukit Jambul.
I accept orders for Jalur Gemilang outfits from July to September in order for customers to wear them on National Day and Malaysia Day, she said.
The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) management course long distance learning student said she is presently sewing 30 outfits a day to fulfil orders mainly from teachers for students.
