KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia June 10 (NNN-Bernama) — Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail reminded the people to respect the country’s sensitivities before issuing public statements.

She said although Malaysia practised freedom of expression, there were some things that needed to be filtered to ensure that the peace in the nation is always preserved.

“We need to be careful of what we say, watch our manners and respect the Constitutional Monarchy,” she told a media conference when attending the 2018 Kuala Lumpur@ Iftar programme at Dataran Merdeka here last night.

She was commenting on the resignation of A Kadir Jasin yesteray as Head of Media and Communications of the Council of Eminent Persons with immediate effect.

A Kadir was reported to have said that he made the decision to avoid confusion among the community regarding his role in the council and his views on his blog and weekly column in the Sinar Harian daily.

About 10,000 people attended the programme organised for the seventh time by the National Department of Culture and Arts together with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia.

Dr Wan Azizah also wished a Happy Aidilfitri to all Muslims and advised them to always give priority to road safety while driving.–NNN-BERNAMA
