KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia May 13 (NNN-Bernama) — Transparency International-Malaysia (TI-M) has lauded the move by the new government under Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to declassify the Auditor-General’s Report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
In a statement yesterday, the transparency watchdog said the declassification would allow the people to know its actual findings and those who were implicated in the scandal involving huge sums of money.
TI-M strongly feels that the case should be investigated further and evidence related to overseas financial transactions should be obtained through mutual assistance from financial institutions of the countries where the money is suspected to have been channelled, it said.
Describing 1MDB as the ‘mother of all scandals’, TI-M said those involved should be brought to justice, irrespective of their positions and face the consequences in accordance with the rule of law.
Dr Mahathir at a press conference yesterday, said he had instructed the police to declassify the report under the Official Secrets Act.–NNN-BERNAMA
