JITRA, Kedah state, Malaysia The skill to seek, use and filter information should be provided to the current generation as the world is faced with an avalanche of information via the internet which can be accessed at any time.
State Education, Communications and High Technology and Domestic Trade Committee chairman Dr Salmee Said this is because in the era of the borderless world, information or knowledge relating to matters such as religion could be easily and speedily be obtained without the need to refer to teachers, ustaz or elders.
As such, it is necessary to instil this skill from now so that they are able to evaluate and practise based on authoritative books and references and the fear of God, she was speaking at an Inter-Religion Discussion dialogue at the Darulaman Teachers Education Institute today.
Dr Salmee said the dialogue was one of the ways to educate the younger generation to obtain expert religious reference and reach common points to improve harmony among followers of different religions.
The programme organised by the institute and One Centre Malaysia in Perlis was attended by various members of the community as well as teachers and students.
