MALAYSIA: SABAH STATE CM CONFIDENT PAN BORNEO HIGHWAY PROJECT WILL CONTINUE

KOTA KINABALU, Sabah state, Malaysia May 26 (NNN-Bernama) — Sabah state Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal says the Pan Borneo Highway project is likely to be continued despite being among the mega projects to be reviewed by the Federal government due to the current financial constraints.

He said the Pan Borneo Highway, construction of which is already underway, will not be axed as the project is seen to be beneficial to the people of Sabah as a whole.

I am confident this project will continue, just maybe there are funding constraints at the moment, so much so even the Federal ministers’ salaries have been slashed. So, imagine… a lot of constraints (financially), he told reporters after launching RTM’s Jelajah Ramadan here yesterday.

Mohd Shafie said the Sabah government was also facing financial constraints including debts that many do not know about.

Later I will detail the debts owed by the Sabah Foundation and the previous state government that needs to be settled, he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafie said the state government would also take several measures including temporarily stopping timber exports and reorganising the role of Yayasan Sabah so that it is more geared to the interests of the people.–NNN-BERNAMA
