MALAYSIA: NEW CABINET LINE-UP CAPABLE OF FULFILLING PROMISES, BRINGING ABOUT CHANGES TO NATION

ALOR SETAR, Kedah state, Malaysia The newly-formed Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Cabinet ministers who were sworn in yesterday, can fulfil all promises contained in the PH manifesto at the recently-concluded 14th General Election, says Universiti Utara Malaysia Vice-Chancellor Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.

He said the Cabinet ministers comprised experienced individuals who could steer the direction of the nation to a better era.

This Cabinet line-up, led by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is capable of steering the direction of the country for the good of the people, he told reporters after the breaking-of-the-fast at Menara Alor Setar here last night.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail led the 13 Cabinet ministers to take their oath of office, loyalty and secrecy before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Malaysia’s King) Sultan Muhammad V at the Istana Negara (Palace) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The ceremony was witnessed by Dr Mahathir.

Also present were wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and Dr Wan Azizah’s husband, PKR de facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim.

The ceremony began at 5.30pm with the acceptance of the instrument of appointment by Dr Wan Azizah, who is also PKR president, as Women and Family Development Minister.

Other Cabinet ministers sworn in were DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (Finance Minister), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin (Home Minister) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu (Defence Minister).

Simpang Renggam MP Dr Maszlee Malik (Education Minister); Titiwangsa MP Rina Harun (Rural Development Minister); PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali (Economic Affairs Minister); PKR Wanita chief, Zuraida Kamaruddin (Housing and Urban Development Minister) and DAP organisation secretary Anthony Loke (Transport Minister).

DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo was sworn in as Communications and Multimedia Minister; DAP vice-chairman M. Kulasegaran (Human Resources Minister); Amanah Deputy President Salahuddin Ayub (Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister) and Amanah Strategic director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Health Minister).
