KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia Over 600 Muslims, including politicians, attended a peaceful rally in front of the United States (US) Embassy here yesterday to commemorate the Al-Quds Day in protest against Israeli aggression towards the people in Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem).
The two-hour rally was organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (Mapim), Secretariat for Asia Assembly of Ulama (Shura), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rakyat Sejagat and 60 non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The rally began with a procession from the Tabung Haji Mosque to the embassy after the Friday prayers.
Mapim president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said a special memorandum was handed over to an embassy representative.
He alleged the US was deemed as Israel’s puppet government.
Al-Quds Day is celebrated the world over as a sign of human solidarity against the atrocities of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians, he told reporters here yesterday.
He said about 10 NGOs would meet Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to submit a copy of the memorandum as the Prime Minister had a strong voice and a highly-respected leadership, adding that the new government under Pakatan Harapan could make a difference in resolving the Palestinian issue.
At least 60 Palestinians were killed in a fight with the Israeli forces on May 14, during a protest against the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem.
More than 100 Palestinians perished since March 30 when mass protests took place.
