KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu had flown to Penang last Saturday in a Royal Malaysian Air Force aircraft to attend an official annual programme of the RMAF, the Defence Ministry clarified today.
It said in a statement that Mohamad had flown in the A400M military transport aircraft along with Malaysian Armed Forces senior officers to attend a breaking-of-the-fast as well as the new defence minister’s first meeting with RMAF personnel at the RMAF Butterworth airbase.
The flight also enabled the RMAF pilot to add on his flying hours because every pilot has to complete a certain number of flying hours to maintain their level of competence, it said.
It also said that the use of the military aircraft enabled the ministry to save transportation costs as compared to the use of a commercial flight for the purpose.
The ministry said the minister’s presence on the A400M aircraft enabled him to get exposure as to the capability, performance, credibility and ability of the aircraft to undertake military operations as well as maintain the MAF level of alertness.
Last Monday, a lawyer had lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission alleging that Mohamad had misused a military asset on a visit to Butterworth.
