KOTA KINABALU, Sabah state, Malaysia May 23 (NNN-ernama) — Sabah state Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal said he had no fear of losing his job in the Cabinet when advising former prime minister Najib Tun Razak to investigate the issue of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Mohd Shafie, who is also a former Rural and Regional Development Minister under Najib’s government, said he was aware that action would be taken against him when raising the issue of 1MDB but for his country he did what was necessary.
“I have given my advice. I have informed the former prime minister (Najib) what to do. I advised him (Najib) to investigate and take action. But of course as the prime minister, it was up to him to make a decision,” he said.
Mohd Shafie was speaking to reporters after attending a briefing on the Sabah Foundation at Menara Tun Mustapha here today.
He was commenting on the statement by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull who praised him (Mohd Shafie) as one of the ministers who believed in him in the issue of the 1MDB case.
He said he dared to advise Najib and was willing to take the risk including losing his Cabinet and political posts over 1MDB for the sake of the country and his love for Malaysia and the people of this country.
“I do not mind sacrificing my post when it is necessary to do so whether the ministerial post or the UMNO vice-presidency. These (position) are not (my) focus. As leaders, if the running of something (administration) needs advice, we advice, if we need to criticise, we criticise,he said.
