MALAYSIA: I AM NOT SO NOBLE, SAYS DR MAHATHIR

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia I am not so noble.

That was Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s short reaction when asked on a motion to lobby his name for the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president casually answered the question after chairing the party’s three-hour meeting at its headquarters in Menara Yayasan Selangor near here today.

It was reported that Dr Mahathir had become the subject of an online petition lobbying for the Prime Minister to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize this year.

A Change.org petition, comparing Dr Mahathir to anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela, was launched on Saturday (May 26) and has since received over 26,300 signatures.

Initiated by Alexandria Abishegam, the petition which was addressed to the Nobel Foundation, wants Dr Mahathir to be nominated for The Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his determination to return to politics at the age of 92 and cast aside his political prejudices to work with his former detractors for the purpose of “saving our nation”.
