MALAYSIA: GOVT WILL LISTEN TO WHAT US HAS TO SAY ON CHINA TRADE WAR

MKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia The government will listen to the proposition by the United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the US-China trade war during his visit to Malaysia, said International Trade and Industry Minister Darell Leiking.

Let’s wait for what he (Pompeo) is going to say. Let him deal with our government and update Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the solution (to the trade war). We will listen to him and also to China.

The US is our third largest trading partner and we are definitely concerned about what is happening, he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a collaboration agreement between Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd and Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Bhd here today.

Darell said the trade war not only impacted Malaysia but also other countries.

But, we are handling ours (the impact) in our own way. For now, let these two countries sort out their issues while we carry on and keep moving forward, he added.

Pompeo is on a two-day working visit to Malaysia, beginning today, and is scheduled to meet Dr Mahathir on Friday.
