MALAYSIA: GE14- IGP REMINDS SUPPORTERS TO BE ON BEST BEHAVIOUR DURING NOMINATION PROCESS

SHAH ALAM, Malaysia April 27 (NNN-Bernama) The public and supporters of political parties contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14) must show good discipline and a sense of responsibility so as not to affect the country’s peace and harmonay, said Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

He said police had made thorough preparations to prevent any untoward incidents during the GE14 period.

He said approximately 70 per cent out of the 150,000 police personnel and officers nationwide were all fully prepared to safeguard the GE14 process with 15,000 of them deployed in Selangor to ensure smooth running of the election process.

The general election has taken place 13 times, therefore in the 14th edition, everyone must demonstrate their maturity. Do not let political obsession affect public safety.

The election campaign will begin after tomorrow’s nomination process and during this period, we will increase monitoring.

I would like to remind all parties that police will not compromise with any elements that pose a threat to national security, he told reporters after attending a Buddhist religious programme in conjunction with the 211st Police Day celebrations at Samadhi Vihara, Section U12, here today.

Meanwhile, Kelantan state police chief Hasanuddin Hassan reminded supporters of political to avoid any form of provocation throughout the nomination process, which will be held at 14 nomination centres, namely four in Kota Bharu, two in Pasir Mas and one each in other districts.

A number of police personnel will be deployed at all nomination centres as early as 6am to ensure the safety of the areas is always guaranteed, he told a press conference at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters in Kota Bharu today.

He said Kelantan police had also received information that there would be a candidate who would be accompanied by some 8,000 supporters to the nomination centre and that the number would likely reach tens of thousands considering other parties contesting.

We are always ready with this kind of situation and we have called the candidate as well as the party representatives asking them to advise their supporters to maintain good conduct throughout the nomination process, he said.
