PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia July 10 (NNN-Bernama)Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today received a courtesy call from Iranian Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs, Dr Masoumeh Ebtekar at his office in Perdana Putra, here.
The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes.
Ebtekar, who is also Special Envoy of the President of Iran, is on a one-day working visit to Malaysia as part of her tour to the Asia Pacific region.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister, and Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.
In a statement, Wisma Putra (Malaysian Foreign Minsitry) said Ebtekar’s visit would further strengthen the ties between the leaders of both countries, especially so with the appointment of Dr Mahathir as the seventh Prime Minister.
Iran is Malaysia’s fourth largest trading partner in the West Asia region with trade value between the two countries amounting to RM4.52 billion last year, an increase of 61.2 per cent compared to RM2.81 billion in 2016.
Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani had an official visit to Malaysia in 2016.–NNN-BERNAM
