PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he was excited and happy to see the enthusiasm of the thousands of people at the Seri Perdana ‘open house’ yesterday and added that it augured well for the future of the country under the Pakatan Harapan government.
The Prime Minister said many of the people, who had gathered at the entrance gate as early as 8.30 am for the 10 am to 4.30 pm open house, thanked him for having saved the country.
The people who attended the open house expressed their strong support for us (the Pakatan Harapan government). I apologise for not having been able to shake hands with everyone.
But I am very grateful to the people who were enthusiastic in showing their appreciation for the effort of the Pakatan Harapan government in saving the country, he said at the open house.
Dr Mahathir said many of the guests who exchanged greetings with him expressed their support and several also said: I love you.
We do not use the ‘I love PM’ placards. The visitors did not bring them but said ‘I Love You’ to me, he said to the applause of the guests.
Dr Mahathir said the ‘open house’ hosted during festivals such as Aidilfitri and Aidiladha were able to foster greater unity among the people of various races.
At one stage, the situation at the open house became quite congested and uncontrollable when the guests rushed to shake hands with Dr Mahathir.
As of noon, up to 30,000 people had attended the open house, which was hosted by the Prime Minister and Cabinet ministers,.
