Kuala Lumpur (dpa) – Malaysian authorities Friday deported a Sri
Lankan national suspected of being a senior member of the separatist
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the country’s police chief
The 37-year-old suspect was arrested last week in central Kuala
Lumpur by the police counter-terrorism division, according to
Inspector General Khalid Abu Bakar.
“He is involved in blackmailing Sri Lankans in Malaysia to get funds
to revive the LTTE terrorist activities in Sri Lanka,” Khalid said in
The suspect was also allegedly involved in a syndicate producing
counterfeit credit cards.
He entered Malaysia in December 2012 under a 3-month visa and has
overstayed in the country since then, Khalid added.
Sri Lanka’s 26-year civil war between government forces and the
separatist LTTE rebels ended in 2009 with the defeat of the Tamils.
