PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia Malaysia treasures its forest heritage including mangrove swamps, said Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

He said sustainability of the forests was important for the current and future generations.

He noted that mangrove forests play an important role in that they acted as a shield against strong winds and waves apart from for socio-economic development of local communities.

“As such, it is our joint responsibility to ensure sustainable management of our mangrove forests, he said in his message in conjunction with the International Mangrove Forest Ecosystem Conservation Day 2018 celebration yesterday.
