MALAYSIA: CALL TO BOOST NATIONAL GREEN TOURISM

By Siti Shafiah Ariffin

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia Sept 23 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia which is blessed with tropical and seasonal fruits should highlight the uniqueness to draw foreign tourists.

Universiti Putra Malaysia Faculty of Design and Architecture dean Assoc Prof Dr Osman Mohd Tahir said many foreign countries including neighbouring Thailand had been using the green tourism principle as a promotion to attract more tourists to their countries.

“Among the steps that need to be taken is to create an annual calendar for the fruit and flower seasons to make it easier for tourists to make plans to come to Malaysia,” he told Bernama here.

The calendar should not only have information on the seasons, but also describe the locations, he said.

“Tropical plants such as ‘Sapu Tangan’, ‘Semarak Api’ and ‘Batai’ that only grow on certain micro climates can also be listed in the national tourism calendar,” he said.
