LZS receives over 400 applications for flood aid

KUALA SELANGOR, Dec 2 (Bernama) — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has received over 400 applications for the LZS Peduli initiative, a programme to distribute aid to flood victims in the state, since it was first introduced on Nov 21.

LZS chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said the board allocated RM19 million under the initiative this year, which is distributed to all those affected and not just the poor and asnaf (tithe recipient) as was done last year.

“The flood aid is open for application, but maybe because there has not been a major flood yet…not many people apply for the aid,” he told reporters after handing over contributions to its hospital patients welfare fund and education grants for disadvantaged students here today.

In another development, Mohd Sabirin said LZS was reviewing the ‘haddul kifayah’ (sufficiency line to determine an asnaf) for asnaf families in the state.

He said early this year, LZS had planned to increase the ‘haddul kifayah’ from RM2,734 per family to RM2,990, however, after looking at the post-pandemic effects such as economic disruptions, he said the board felt that the amount was not in tandem with the current situation.
