SUBANG JAYA, Dec 5 (Bernama) — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has allocated RM77.7 million in zakat to be distributed through 10 Zakat Selangor Peduli initiatives to benefit asnaf (those eligible to receive tithe) and target groups between October until December this year.
LZS chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said the allocation will mainly benefit the asnaf group, B40, M40 and institutions in Selangor, who are struggling with the cost of living post-COVID-19 and the floods last year.
“The targeted distribution of Zakat is to ease the burden of the rising cost of living and inflation on the poor and the needy, as well as to support the rehabilitation of institutions in Selangor,” he said at the launch of the “Kongsi Rezeki dengan 2.5 Peratus” campaign here today.
He also said the LZS, through the Zakat Selangor Peduli, has allocated RM33.5 million in special livelihood (inflation) assistance for 67,000 beneficiaries comprising the poor, asnaf and mualaf (Muslim converts) group.
“The one-off aid of RM500 is additional assistance to help the group to make ends meet following the increase in the cost of living.
“The aid will be directly transferred to the recipient’s bank account registered with the LZS, starting today,” he said.
According to Mohd Sabirin, the Zakat Selangor Peduli, which was introduced in 2021 to channel aid to specific target groups involved the distribution of zakat amounting to RM62.5 million.
Meanwhile, the “Kongsi Rezeki dengan 2.5 Peratus” campaign themed “Sedikit Bagi Anda, Segalanya Buat Mereka” (A little for you, everything for them) was launched with the aim to encourage zakat contributors to fulfil their annual obligation before the end of this year.
