The pride of the nation, the Jalur Gemilang (national flag) will be taken to travel more than 3,000 km to all corners of the country by the 2023 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy (KMJG) in conjunction with the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2023 starting in Ipoh this morning and will end at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the chairman of the National Day and Malaysia Day 2023 Celebrations Main Committee, said the convoy will take the Jalur Gemilang across the country through the ‘Handover of the Jalur Gemilang’ at checkpoints.
“The convoy will travel as far as 3,347 km throughout the country, there will be 132 checkpoints, of which 66 are in Peninsular Malaysia and another 66 in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan,” he said in his speech in conjunction with the launching ceremony of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2023 at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru Raya, here this morning.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof represented Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in flagging off KMJG 2023 after launching the ceremony.
The convoy led by Suwadi Guliling, Deputy Director-General (Strategic Communications) of the Malaysian Information Department, involves strategic cooperation between departments and agencies at the federal and state levels.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said the convoy participants would be joined by professionals such as architects, engineers, doctors, pilots, lecturers and businessmen in addition to a non-governmental organisation (NGO) namely Kelab Permotoran BMW K16 Malaysia.
The public is also welcome to celebrate the arrival of the convoy in each district.
He said various interesting events have been planned in each location to boost the celebration and love for the country such as the ‘Expresi Malaysiaku’ Programme, entertainment performances, distribution of departmental publications and others.
