Iran slams UN envoy’s report on human rights

Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari has criticized a recent report by Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran.

Ansari described Ahmed Shaheed’s report on the situation of human rights in Iran as “biased”, “politically motivated” and “prejudicial, Tasnim news agency reported.

He said that the report is “imbalanced” and has been prepared based on “unreliable information”.

The speaker further said that the Islamic Republic is committed to improving the situation of human rights in the country, and in the framework of the country’s constitution the government makes constant efforts in this regard.

According to Ansari, the country is currently preparing “Citizens Bill Of Rights” aimed at improving the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic.

During a session of the UN Human Rights Council On March 14, Shaheed raised claims about the “extremely high rate of executions”, especially for “juvenile offenders”, and “fundamental flaws” in Iran’s judiciary system.

Special rapporteurs are appointed by the Human Rights Council to examine and report back on a country situation or a specific human rights issue.
