After a year of operating internally, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin Teaching Hospital (HPUNISZA) is offering specialist clinic services to outpatients starting today.
UNISZA vice-chancellor, Datuk Dr Fadzli Adam said the service involves eight clinics, namely Internal Medicine Clinic, Pediatric Clinic, Orthopedic Clinic, Otorhinolaryngology Clinic, Ophthalmology Clinic, Surgery Clinic, Obstetrics & Gynecology Clinic and Psychiatry Clinic.
He said that despite offering specialist treatment, the cost of treatment at HPUniSZA is much lower than the charges by other private hospitals.
“In addition to private patients, HPUNISZA also accepts patients referred to us by Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ).
“Although the cost of treatment is cheaper than in the private sector, the level or quality of expertise offered is on par with that of a private hospital. For patients who are less able, we have a collaboration with the Terengganu Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) for cost assistance,” he said at the UniSZA MADANI student carnival opening ceremony here today.
Also present was HPUNISZA director Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Zubaidi Abdul Latif.
Fadzli said for the current first phase, HPUNISZA will operate five days a week from Sunday to Thursday with a capacity of between 100 to 150 patients per day.
He added that the operation hours will be expanded to seven days a week after HPUNISZA operates in full phase which is expected to be in January next year at the latest.
“In terms of staff, we already have over 1,000 staff members and can operate in the full phase, which is for 200 beds. We will start with 100 beds because some equipment has yet to arrive.
“Insya Allah, with the allocation given by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF), we will be able to operate fully with surgical equipment and 200 beds,” he said.
