High Speed Hitters triumph over Foxies


MANILA: PLDT High Speed Hitters pulled off a 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 win over Farm Fresh to secure a place in the next round of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Thursday.

Import Elena Samoilenko scored 22 points to go with nine excellent receptions in leading the High Speed Hitters to their fourth victory in five outings in the Pool A eliminations.

Fiona Mae Ceballos contributed 11 attacks and 10 excellent digs while Mike Aereen Reyes added eight points, including four blocks.

Meanwhile, Creamline and Chery Tiggo, sporting identical 3-1 slates, moved to next round as top teams, while Farm Fresh was fourth at 2-3.

The next round will see the top three teams from Pool A clashing with the bottom three from Pool B and vice versa, with the Top 8 advancing to the knockout quarterfinals.

“Everyone is happy with the adjustments we’ve made, we really worked hard,” commented Kim Fajardo, who made 12 excellent sets and had three points.

“The connection within
the team is great, both on and off the court,” she added.

Trisha Gayle Tubo finished with 16 attacks and one ace for the Foxies, who rallied in the third set to move within 22-23 before the High Speed Hitters fought back to wrap up the match in one hour and 21 minutes.

Import Yeny Murillo chipped in 10 attacks, one ace and eight excellent receptions.
