PUTRAJAYA, A former Sungai Siput MIC division chief, today lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged corruption in a land purchase deal in Sungai Siput by a former political party leader.

M. Lokanathan, claimed that the former leader had bought 40.87 hectares (101 acres) of land from a plantation cooperative in 2005, supposedly for building houses for plantation workers who were also shareholders

He claimed that the market price for the land was RM68,000 per acre but the former political party leader, who was also the former MP for Sungai Siput, had bought it at a much cheaper price of RM11,000 per acre.

Speaking to the media outside the MACC compound today, Lokanathan also claimed that the land ownership was later changed to a Chinese businessman, and until now there has been no construction of houses as promised.
