KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis continues to decline, with the number of victims increasing tonight, while the flooding in Johor was over when the last temporary relief centre was closed this afternoon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the number of flood victims in Kelantan rose to 50,947 at 207 relief centres from 42,868 at 190 relief centres.
Pasir Mas recorded the highest number of victims this evening, with 18,828 housed at 49 relief centres, followed by Tumpat with 7,149 victims at 16 relief centres. Kota Bharu, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, and Bachok also reported significant numbers of displaced individuals, with 4,525, 4,753, 4,201, and 2,516 victims at various relief centres, respectively. Other affected areas in Kelantan include Pasir Puteh, Machang, Jeli, and Gua Musang, with varying numbers of victims seeking shelter.
In Terengganu, the number of flood victims rose to 17,762 at 206 relief centres, a significant increase from 14,111 victims earlier in
the day. Besut has the highest number of victims, with 7,263 people in 81 relief centres. Other areas affected include Hulu Terengganu, Setiu, Kemaman, Dungun, Marang, and Kuala Nerus, each housing several hundred to thousands of victims.
In Kedah, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force deputy director, Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain, reported that Kota Setar is the latest affected district with one relief centre opened. The number of victims in Kedah surged to 2,210 from 1,849, with Kubang Pasu being the most affected area, housing 1,166 victims at 11 relief centres. Padang Terap, Pokok Sena, and Sik also reported victims taking shelter across various relief centres.
Perlis APM director Lt. Col. (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud noted an increase in the number of flood victims in the state, rising to 415 from 383. Victims are housed in several schools and community centres including Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Arau, SK Guar Nangka, SK Titi Tinggi in Padang Besar, and Dewan Warisan in Kangar.
Meanwhile, the Perak Sta
te Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) reported that 20 victims from seven families remain housed at SK Haji Parit Aman in Kerian. In contrast, Johor’s flood situation has fully recovered, as confirmed by JPBN chairman Tan Sri Dr. Azmi Rohani. The relief centre at Balai Raya Batu Badak in Segamat was closed after 28 victims from eight families were allowed to return home.
