Eight drug suspects detained in raids at homestay

MIRI, Eight suspected drug traffickers, including an Indonesian woman, were arrested when the police raided three homestays here yesterday.

Sarawak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department head Supt Sahar Abdul Latif, in a statement here today, said drugs, comprising 213.19 gm of syabu and 31 erimin 5 pills, a BMW 320i car and a R25 motorcycle were seized in the raids.

He said the first raid was conducted about 6.30 pm during which a local man was arrested after the police found drugs in a sling bag he was carrying.

Following his arrest, police raided two homestays, where the remaining seven suspects were arrested, he added.

He said the eight suspects comprised six women, including an Indonesian, and two men. They are between 25 and 46 years of age.

All of them tested positive for drug and they are being detained for five days for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, he added.
