KOTA KINABALU, State Education and Innovation Minister, Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said the creative industry sector is an important component in the development of education and human resource skills to expand educational opportunities in the state.
He said that the state government focused on the sector because it was in line with the decision of the state government to open a new state educational hub starting from Papar to Kuala Penyu.
”Currently, we have one institution linked to the creative industry in the state, namely, the Sabah Animation Creative Content Centre (SAC3) and indeed my ministry view this matter seriously as it is the current need.
”This is because the development of the creative industry is in line with the progress of the multimedia and entertainment animation, so we will turn the creative sector into one of the important components of education in Sabah,” he told reporters after launching the 2019 SAC3 Graduation Ceremony here today.
Meanwhile, Dr Yusof said SAC3 would be restructured to turn it into a creative centre or ‘design house’ which could provide industry designs for local and international companies.
‘This includes designs for the car and aircraft manufacturing industry in line with the approaches of production companies currently which outsource their product designs,” he added.
Dr Yusof said that the new effort was targeted to turn SAC3 into a centre of excellence in the creative industry other than supporting the development of the state industrial, education and tourism sectors.
SAC3 is a training institution which was developed through the initiative of the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) under the supervision of the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) to develop the potentials of the people in the state in the creative industry.
At its graduation ceremony today, 108 graduates received their certificates in animation multimedia, visual multimedia, film production and apprenticeship and advanced apprenticeship.
