KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia May 13 (NNN-Bernama) — Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad continues to receive congratulatory messages for his appointment as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia and for the victory of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the country’s 14th General Election (GE14).
The chairman of PH has also been receiving pledges of support from various quarters who are ready to work with him towards a more peaceful, stable, prosperous and progressing Malaysia.
Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) secretary J. Solomon said the MTUC was prepared to collaborate with the new PH-led federal government to find ways to improve itself for the benefit of the Malaysian workers.
He said the main issues to be addressed would be the rising cost of living and the inability of the low-income earners to sustain their livelihood.
Improvement needs to be done in stages and we cannot expect a change to happen overnight. The MTUC must be part of the process.
I would also like to call on all Malaysians to stay united while celebrating the new mandate of the people. Let’s continue working with the new government towards a more prosperous Malaysia and wellbeing of all the people, he said in a statement here yesterday.
Meanwhile, National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Harry Tan Huat Hock expressed hope that education would remain as the main agenda in nation development under the leadership of Dr Mahathir.
He said it was hoped that the new government would give extra attention on several educational issues, including ways to reduce clerical work for teachers.
Besides, he said it was also hoped that the government could review the national policy on technical and vocational education and training (TVET), uphold the teaching professions, create discipline among students and restructure the Ministry of Education.–NNN-BERNAMA
