KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) — Syariah lawyer, Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar has been elected as the Federal Territories Syariah Lawyers Council (MPSWP) president for a two-year term (2022 to 2024).
In a statement today, Zainul Rijal said the election at the first annual general meeting of MPSWP in Putrajaya was officiated by Minister (Religious Affairs) in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Idris Ahmad.
He said the syariah lawyers present at the meeting also chose 13 committee members of MPSWP for the term based on Section 49 of the Syariah (Federal Territories) Legal Profession Act 2019.
He added that in the election, Musa Awang was chosen as vice-president, Majdah Muda as secretary and Datuk Hazizah Kassim as treasurer.
“Today, the MPSWP decided that because the formation of MPSWP took place only recently after the implementation of the Syariah (Federal Territories) Legal Profession Act 2019 last June 21, all the implementation matters with regard to the Federal Territories (FTs) syariah lawyers previously will continue like before MPSWP’s formation until the time when other decisions are made by it in future.
“This will enable MPSWP to look closely at all the legal provisions and procedures to be gazetted soon,” he said while calling on all the FTs’ syariah lawyers to close ranks and assist from time to time in making the MPSWP’s agenda a success.
“MPSWP is a means for us all to be exemplary to the syariah lawyers councils to be set up in the respective states later on,” he added.
