MIRI: Barisan Nasional candidate for Miri Datuk Sebastian Ting says the government will continue to recognise the contributions of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to society and the country.
He said the works of NGOs are in line with the 1Malaysia concept of ‘People First, Achievement Now’ where the focus is community wellbeing, unity and harmony.
NGOs are organisations that aim to look after the aspects of welfare and culture, as well as fight for the community’s interests, he said when officiating a gathering with registered NGOs here yesterday.
The event saw some 79 registered NGOs with over 30 years of establishment presented with certificates of appreciation.
Ting said it was important for all NGOs to strictly abide with the organisation management procedures under the Societies Act 1966, and encouraged them to recruit more young members in order to add fresh ideas that can bring them to achieve greater things.
Registry of Societies (RoS) director-general Surayati Ibrahim, RoS state director Georgina Apphia Ngau and Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini were among those present at the event.
