CM declines to comment on S’wak govt and Petronas legal battle

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has declined to comment on the case between Petronas and the Sarawak government as it is now a court case.

I got no comment as it is under court. It will be sub-judice, said Abang Johari when met at at the ‘Program Ihsan Ramadan PBB N8 Satok’ at Dewan Merpati Jepang here today.

When asked further whether there would there be any action or deadline to be set by the Sarawak government in facing the case, Abang Johari also refused to comment. I can’t comment, it is a court case, he added.

Petronas had on last Monday filed application before the Federal Court seeking for a declaration on the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA) being the law applicable for the petroleum industry in Malaysia.

The national oil company is seeking to clarify that under the law, it is the exclusive owner of petroleum resourcesas well as the regulator for the upstream industry throughout Malaysia, including in Sarawak.

The suit by Petronas against the Sarawak Government will be heard on June 12.

Earlier on, Abang Johari presented contributions to 215 eligible needy in Satok constituency.

Also present were his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, and Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
