Cebu guv addresses 200 Mindanao town mayors ‘brothers of old’


CEBU CITY: Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia highlighted the shared traits of the Mindanaoans and Visayans as she addressed the 200 mayors from Mindanao here for a three-day conference to end on Thursday.

The municipal mayors from Mindanao gathered here for the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Mindanao Island Cluster Conference (LMP-MICC) from Aug. 6 to 8.

Garcia, who addressed the mayors as ‘brothers of the old,’ cited the interconnections among peculiarities of the people from the Visayas, particularly in Cebu, and the Mindanaoans.

‘Many years ago, we were all brothers. In the coming years, our brotherhood will remain,’ Garcia said in Cebuano.

The provincial government hosted a dinner with the mayors on Wednesday night.

Mayor Joseph Blando of La Paz, Abra who is the current national president of LMP, said they chose Cebu because of the warm welcome and hospitality of the people.

He said the MICC is expected to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange among local government units in Mindana
o, with Cebu providing a vibrant and accommodating backdrop for the event.

He added that municipal mayors across Mindanao discussed and shared strategies, insights, and best practices for sustainable development in their respective localities.
