Sultan of Brunei arrives in Malaysia for two-day working visit

SUBANG, Malaysia, The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, flew in to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) airbase here this evening to begin a two-day visit to Malaysia during which His Majesty will have talks with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad under the Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Annual Leaders’ Consultation framework.

The sultan, who was accompanied by a 19-member delegation of ministers and government officers, was welcomed at the airport by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who had piloted the special aircraft himself, inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by two officers and 24 men of the First Battalion Royal Rangers Regiment.

Tomorrow, His Majesty is scheduled to have a four-eyed discussion with Dr Mahathir in Putrajaya, their first talks under the framework of the Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Annual Leaders’ Consultation since Dr Mahathir become the seventh prime minister in May last year.

The sultan is also scheduled to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam on the Movement of Prisoners before a luncheon in His Majesty’s honour hosted by Dr Mahathir and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, at Seri Perdana.

In the evening, His Majesty is scheduled to attend a programme with students of Brunei Darussalam in Malaysia at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The sultan is scheduled to return to Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday.

Two fallen firefighters in Puchong tragedy receive posthumous medals

KOTA BHARU, Two firefighters who were killed while carrying out a search and rescue operation to locate a teenager who fell into a disused mining pool in Taman Perdana Putra, Puchong, Selangor on Oct 3 last year, have been posthumously awarded the Pingat Bakti (PB) for their sacrifices.

Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan Tengku Dr Muhammad Faiz Petra presented the medals to the families of the fallen fighters in conjunction with Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V’s 49th birthday celebration at Istana Balai Besar here today.

Wan Kamilah Wan Yaacob, 54, the mother of firefighter Muhammad Hifdzul Malik Shaari, and Wan Ibrahim Mat Daud, 61, father of firefighter Izatul Akma, received the medals on behalf of their sons.

Dr Siti Hasmah leads Kasih Malaysia delegation to NADMA

PUTRAJAYA, Members of Kasih Malaysia, the Welfare Association of Wives of Pakatan Harapan Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers, led by the Prime Minister’s wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali paid a courtesy visit to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) here today.

In a statement issued today, NADMA said the delegation was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who was also chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee as well as NADMA director, Datuk Mohtar Ab Rahman.

According to the statement, KASIH Malaysia had made disaster management one of its eight portfolios.

It said NADMA and KASIH Malaysia had the potential and opportunity to work together in managing aid during disasters.

Malaysia steps up visit Malaysia 2020 promotion at ITB Berlin 2019 as official country partner

PUTRAJAYA, Tourism Malaysia is undertaking its annual tourism promotion at ITB Berlin this year from 6 to 10 March as usual. Only this time, it will assume the title of Official Partner Country of the important travel trade event. It is seen as a significant promotional effort leading up to the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign for the country.

This year’s delegation to ITB Berlin comprises of 11 state tourism boards, 32 tour operators, 30 hotels and resorts, two airlines, four tourism service providers and four tourism related agencies. There are a total of 136 participants representing 83 organisations taking part from Malaysia, with major players and sponsors being Malaysia Airlines, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Putrajaya Corporation, Selangor, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Condor Airlines and Desaru Coast.

ALOR SETAR, Malaysian couples who got married in Thailand are normally those whose intention to marry were opposed by their families, or men taking another wife, but who are not able to get the permission of their first wife, said an agent that offers marriage service in Thailand.

The agent, who requested to be known only as Shed, said he also helped to manage the divorce process of Malaysian couples whose marriage are registered in Thailand.

Malaysian couples whose marriage are registered in Thailand, but not registered in Malaysia, will have to dissolve their marriage at the Malaysian Consulate in Thailand first to be divorced before they can remarry, he added.
