KUALA LUMPUR In appreciation of the sacrifices and contributions of its staff in discharging their duties amid the COVID-19 crisis, the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today launched a mission dubbed Bernama Prihatin Mission 2020 to distribute Aidilfitri goodies to its 1,041 staff nationwide.
Bernama Editor-in-Chief Datuk Mokhtar Hussain, who is also the agency’s interim Chief Executive Officer, said it was hoped that the contribution would help the staff in preparing for Aidilfitri even though it is expected to be a very different Aidilfitri celebration this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At the same time, this is also part of our efforts to strengthen the bond between the management and the staff especially during this trying time,” he said after presenting the goodies to staff representatives at Wisma Bernama here today.
Also present was Bernama Chairman Suhaimi Sulaiman.
Mokhtar said under the Bernama Prihatin Mission, the goodies would also be distributed to those in Bernama bureaus, locally and abroad, including part-timers and contract workers, with a total allocation of RM30,000 from Bernama Welfare Fund, Bernama Staff Club, Association for Women and Wives of Bernama Employees (Benita) and Bernama Workers Union.
Ten selected staff who have been working from home since the implementation of the Movement Control Order will get their goodie bags delivered directly to their homes, he added.
