KUALA LUMPUR: The Golden Jubilee celebration of Barisan Nasional (BN) will be held on December 7, as announced today by BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Deputy Prime Minister, revealed that this decision emerged from the BN Supreme Council Meeting he chaired last night at the BN Meeting Room, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid expressed hope that the discussions and resolutions from the meeting would continue to bolster the efforts of the Barisan Nasional team. He shared his sentiments in a Facebook post, emphasizing BN’s role as a champion of the people’s aspirations. Furthermore, the meeting addressed current issues pertinent to the interests and welfare of the Malaysian populace.
Barisan Nasional currently comprises UMNO, MCA, MIC, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS). The coalition was originally formed on June 1, 1974, by the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who was the Prime Minister of Malaysia and UMNO preside
nt at the time. It was established to succeed the Alliance Party, which consisted of UMNO, MCA, and MIC, with the objective of fostering unity among Malaysia’s political parties. At its zenith, BN included 13 component parties.
