ALOR SETAR, Sept 2 (Bernama) — A total of 6,000 packs, each containing chicken and a bag of five kilogrammes (kg) of rice are being offered for only RM10 at the Kedah Malaysian Family Aspirations (AKM) tour for three days beginning today.
A Bernama check revealed that Kedah folks have thronged the Darul Aman Stadium here as early as 9 am to buy the food packs.
Mardziyah Ishak, 41, who hails from Jitra said she and her three daughters and mother queued in front of the sales booth at 9 am to buy the items on offer.
“We left the house at 7.30 am…the price being offered for the two items are very cheap, much cheaper than those sold at the shops so we don’t want to miss this ‘Happy Hour’.
“This sale can also help reduce the burden of household expenses, so I hope it can be held every year and this can certainly help the B40 group,” she told Bernama here today.
Another visitor Hasliza Ibrahim, 45, from Mergong here said she only found out about the sale through a radio broadcast yesterday, adding that she joined the queue at 10 am.
“The price of chicken and rice sold at the stores and markets is much more expensive so this is very helpful for the less fortunate. Maybe in the future, we can increase the amount of chicken and rice being sold in addition to increasing the types of goods sold,” she said.
A MARA Corporation spokesman Mohd Safwan Abdul Ghani said the Happy Hour was scheduled at 11 am but it had to be brought forward to 10.40 am due to the overwhelming response.
“For the morning session, we managed to sell 70 per cent of the chicken and rice. And the afternoon session will start at 4.30 pm. Those who are not able to make it today can always come on Saturday and Sunday,” he explained.
The Kedah AKM is the ninth edition of the programme after Johor, Perlis, Sabah, Terengganu, Perak, Kelantan, Sarawak and Selangor.
