Agong, Raja Permaisuri extend condolences to Abang Ahmad Urai’s family

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has conveyed his condolences to the family of former Senate president Tan Sri Abang Ahmad Urai Datu Abang Mohideen, who died early today.

Also expressing condolences in the message posted on Istana Negara’s Facebook today was Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Hajah Azizah expressed their sadness with Abang Ahmad Urai’s passing and hoped his family would be patient and resolute in facing the situation.

Their Majesties also pray that his soul is blessed by Allah SWT and placed among the righteous.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong greatly appreciates the devotion, service and sacrifices of the late Abang Ahmad Urai and described his passing as a great loss to Sarawak and the nation, the Facebook post read.

Abang Ahmad Urai died at the Normah Sarawak Medical Centre in Petra Jaya at about 12.30 am today. He was 89.

He was born in Kuching on June 26, 1933 and was appointed Senate president, replacing Tan Sri Benedict Stephens, serving from July 12, 1988 to July 9, 1990.

He had also served as Sarawak Assistant Culture, Youth and Sports Minister.
