Adab to hand over memorandum to PM on matters affecting Malay interests

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) — Lembaga Peradaban Melayu (Adab) will send a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on three matters that affect the interests of the Malay community in the country.

Chairman Datuk Ghazali Mohd Yusoff said the three matters were related to Malay Reserve Land, the percentage of which had been declining recently, details on the empowerment of the Malay language and the economy of the Malays post COVID-19.

“A meeting to discuss these three issues will be held soon, before the memorandum is handed over to the Prime Minister,” he said when asked to comment on Adab’s vision after the 10th and 11th annual general meetings here today.

At the meeting today, its leadership team was elected for the 2022-2024 term with Ghazali as chairman and Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Zainal Kling as his deputy.

Earlier, Dewan Negara speaker Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim when officiating the annual general meeting, said civilisation-related organisations such as Adab should be more active in highlighting weaknesses so that matters on culture and civilisation are not forgotten by the community.

He said civilisation and cultural values must be inculcated in society and this could be carried out by Adab with the collaboration of various ministries including the Ministry of Education, in order for these elements to be included in formal education, as being done in countries of East Asia such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China.
