4,500 Proton staff in Tanjung Malim to be vaccinated under PIKAS

— A total of 4,500 employees of Proton Holdings Bhd in Tanjung Malim near here will receive the first dose of vaccination through the first Public-Private Partnership COVID-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (PIKAS) for workers in the manufacturing sector in the state.

Perak Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman, Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya, said the vaccination centre (PPV) at the Proton Sports Complex in Tanjung Malim targets to administer 800 doses of vaccine daily.

The centre will be open from today until July 17.

“PIKAS PPV in Tanjung Malim is one of the four centres suggested in Perak. Three more PPVs will be set up in stages at several districts after obtaining approval from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

He said MITI would be assisted by InvestPerak and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) through the Industrial Support Coordination Centre to identity several new locations to implement the PIKAS initiative at industrial centres in the state.

Under the initiative, the government aims to vaccinate at least two million workers in the manufacturing sector by the third quarter of this year.

As of July 11, a total of 485,403 people in Perak have received their first dose while 270,092 have fully completed both COVID-19 vaccine doses.
