Malaysian Family concept outlines three characteristics, 20 values

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The ‘Malaysian Family’, which is the concept of the new government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, outlines three characteristics and 20 enrichment of values.

According to the Malaysian Family booklet, the three characteristics are inclusivity, common ground and contentment.

The enrichment of values under the characteristics included instilling a culture of integrity in the family, making the culture of trust as a family culture, making the principle of justice as the core of strengthening the family and making consensus through consultation as a family practice.

Others are inculcating a culture of knowledge in the community and family, fostering a culture of prudent communication among families and communities as well as instilling noble values in every member of the family.

Other values outlined are responsibility towards family, cultivating the act of kindness in fostering the spirit of family togetherness, ensuring a harmonious atmosphere can be enjoyed by the family as well as instilling a culture of service in the family to help members who need it.

Other values are safeguarding the honor and dignity of the family, instilling the caring spirit to help family members, fostering a culture of patience in maintaining family harmony and instilling the spirit of peace and well-being in family members.

Cultivating healthy physical and mental practices, continuing family traditions and customs, love, respect and obedience are also included.

Meanwhile, the booklet also shares the vision, strategic direction, message and main focus areas.

The vision of Malaysian Family is to revive the country and achieve the status of a developed and high-income country.

In line with the current situation, it also outlines the strategic direction where Malaysians regardless of religion and race will work together to revive the country from the negative impacts of COVID-19.

Also shared are the key focus areas which include uniting all Malaysians under the auspices of the Malaysian Family, putting aside political differences to achieve stability, as well as bridging the economic gaps.

In general, the overall message of this concept is that the Malaysian Family can accept similarities and differences based on the values and characteristics of the Malaysian Family based on the Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara.

The official launch of the Malaysian Family concept is scheduled to be held on Oct 22 in Kuching which is known as the city of unity.

Spirit of Keluarga Malaysia helps stabilise prices of chicken, eggs – KPDNHEP

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 8 — Poultry and eggs industry players have agreed on a reasonable margin in determining the current retail prices of chicken and eggs in the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family), according to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

In a statement, the ministry said it has obtained cooperation from every player in the industry to review their costs and profits at each stage of the supply chain.

It said the data and trend of chicken prices issued by the ministry’s National Product Price Division showed that the national average price of cleaned standard chicken has been around RM8.70 per kg since mid-September compared to RM10 per kg recorded two weeks earlier.

In fact, during routine inspections on Monday, only two out of 560 premises were found selling the chicken at a price above RM9.50 per kg.

Meanwhile, it said the national average price of 30 Grade A eggs is RM13.20, Grade B RM12.40 and Grade C RM11.80 but 162 out of 418 premises were found were selling the eggs above the national average price.

“Nevertheless, the ministry is confident that the cooperation from all quarters in the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia will create a balanced and controlled environment at every stage of the supply and retail chain which is hoped to continue to persist,” the statement read.

It said a total of 1,000 price monitoring officers and 2,200 enforcement officers have been mobilised to monitor and carry out inspections at the retail, wholesale and manufacturing stages on daily basis to ensure adequate supply and reasonable prices of goods.

“Consumers are also advised to wisely plan their expenditure by making comparisons and only buy the goods from premises offering the most reasonable prices,” it added.

Temenggor Lake reopens for business Friday

IPOH, Oct 8 — After 19 months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism activities in Temenggor Lake, Gerik, located some 170 kilometres away from here, have finally reopened today.

Tourism Perak Management Berhad, in a statement, said the reopening of the sector would bring a ray of hope to houseboat operators and indirectly help to boost the economy of the local community.

However, it said the relaxation for tourism activities is subject to several conditions that need to be adhered to by houseboat operators, in addition to the standard operating procedures (SOP) stipulated by the National Security Council.

“Among the requirement is that any houseboat operators who wanted to resume operation need to register with the Hulu Perak District and Land Office and the Fisheries Department,” the statement read.

It added that disinfection and sanitation works should be carried out three times a day during operation hours, especially at public areas such as surau, restrooms, storeroom and counters, and all quarters are required to observe other SOPs including physical distance and wearing face masks during activities.

According to Tourism Perak Management Berhad, overnight stays in houseboats were also allowed for three days and two nights, provided that the boat is within the area of the Royal Belum State Park.

“The maximum number of passengers in a boat, including the helmsman, should not exceed 50 per cent of the original capacity and only individuals aged 18 to 60 are allowed to participate in the activities,” it said.

Meanwhile, it said visitors and tourism product operators who wish to enter the Royal Belum State Park are required to follow the SOP set by the Perak State Parks Corporation including no overnight stays for fishing activities and to only accept visitors from Perak.

“Operators and visitors who have been fully vaccinated are required to present their COVID-19 vaccination certificate and permit application forms.

“The boat passenger capacity is 50 per cent of the original capacity while visits to the Orang Asli villages are not allowed,” it said, adding that the SOP was subject to changes announced by the government.

SPPA: Address updating process underway – NRD

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 8 — The National Registration Department (NRD) is assisting the Election Commission (EC) in the process of updating voter addresses following the implementation of the pre-registration of automatic voters (SPPA) by the Election Commission (EC).

For the process of updating the address, applicants can go to any nearby NRD office to apply for a change of address on MyKad without having to make an appointment, said the NRD in a statement today.

The applicant must bring one of the supporting documents as proof of new address such as utility bill, quit rent, tax assessment, income tax assessment form, sale and purchase agreement, rental agreement or receipt under the applicant’s name to proof that they live in the said address.

For applicants who could not produce such documents, they must provide a confirmation letter from a village head, tuai rumah, penghulu, state assemblyman, member of parliament, employer or other documents that can prove their current address, it said.

“Applicants are reminded to bring the relevant supporting documents in their original form or certified copies,” the statement read.

Public reminded to dispose of used COVID-19 self-test kits safely

SEREMBAN, Oct 8 — The Negeri Sembilan Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) has reminded the public to dispose of used COVID-19 self-test kits in a safe and proper manner to prevent the spread of the virus.

Its director Mohd Zahir Shari said if the disposal process was not done in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set, it would put the health of the public as well as solid waster collectors at risk.

“The public is advised not to throw away their used COVID-19 self-test kits everywhere.

“They need to follow the guidelines provided, including putting it back in the plastic bag (that usually comes with the pack) and throwing it in the garbage bin or disposing of the kit according to proper procedures,” he told a press conference, here today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zahir said efforts were being intensified to promote a campaign to increase awareness of good hygiene practices among the community.

He said the Negeri Sembilan SWCorp also distributed posters about the campaign to every local authority in the state to remind the public to be more responsible in keeping the environment clean.

On the Taman Inspirasiku Project (My iNsPark), he said the programme has been able to encourage involvement of the local community to beautify their housing area and clean up their surroundings.

COVID: Labuan records rise in percentage of vaccine recipients aged 13-17

LABUAN, Oct 8 — A total of 83.19 per cent of the 10,200 students aged between 13 and 17 in the Federal Territory of Labuan have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine jab as of Oct 6.

Of the total, 19.07 per cent have been fully vaccinated.

Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said the vaccination programme for 12-year-old students will begin tomorrow (Oct 9).

“The vaccination programme involves the cooperation from the Education Department and Residents Representative Council,” he told Bernama today.

Labuan is among the pioneer states involved in the reopening of schools nationwide on Oct 4 following its transition to Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan after recording a good performance under the National Immunisation Plan.

There are 10 secondary and 17 primary schools in Labuan.

In another development, Labuan has completed 100 per cent vaccination against COVID-19 among its adult population on Tuesday (Sept 7).

Apart from locals, the adult population among the immigrants on the island has also been vaccinated, especially at the two Philippines Refugee Community Settlement Schemes.
