TRIO Completes Enrolment for Phase 2 Giredestrant Early Breast Cancer Trial Ahead of Schedule

58 Clinical Trial Sites, 11 Countries

EDMONTON, Alberta, July 06, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Translational Research in Oncology (TRIO), a global academic clinical research organization, announced today enrolment completion in coopERA Breast Cancer (WO42133/TRIO038), a Phase 2 randomized, multi-center, open-label clinical trial of giredestrant (GDC-9545) sponsored by F. Hoffmann-La Roche. This comes shortly after completion of the planned study interim analysis provided encouraging results and supported continuation of the study.

Giredestrant is an oral selective estrogen receptor degrader (SERD) that was shown to be well tolerated with encouraging tumour activity both alone and in combination with palbociclib in estrogen-receptor positive (ER+) metastatic breast cancer patients.

The trial is investigating the ability to expand the safety and efficacy of giredestrant as monotherapy and in combination with palbociclib into the early breast cancer setting. Enrolment of 221 patients was completed three months ahead of schedule. The trial design evaluates the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of presurgical treatment with giredestrant plus palbociclib compared with anastrozole plus palbociclib for postmenopausal women with ER+ and HER2-negative untreated early breast cancer.

“To have patient enrolment completed three months ahead of schedule, despite the global pandemic, reinforces the strength of commitment of TRIO’s investigator network,” stated Dr. Vanesa Quiroga, a member of the trial’s Steering Committee, GEICAM and Catalan Institute of Oncology. “The scale of interest from patients further underlines the urgency to bring forward new treatment options to treat early stage breast cancer.”

UTM appoints first person with disability as Real Estate Director

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has appointed Dr Muhammad Najib Razali as the Director of Real Estate at the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying for the next three years effective July 1.

Muhammad Najib, 44, is the first person with a disability (PwD) to be appointed to the post since it was established in 1973. He lost his right leg due to a bacterial infection in 2010 while studying in Australia.

“This appointment is an important recognition for the disabled community, not only in UTM but also in Malaysia, as it proves that they are able to be independent in the academic and professional world.

“UTM’s trust in Muhammad Najib to lead the real estate portfolio in UTM is a high recognition of the disabled community, and proves that disability and physical limitations do not prevent him from carrying out academic work just like other academicians,” the university said in a statement today.

Muhammad Najib, an alumnus of UTM, earned his degree in property management from the university, before graduating as a Doctor of Philosophy in Real Estate Economics and Finance from Western Sydney University, Australia.

Muhammad Najib is also very active in speaking at professional conferences, with his expertise being in property management, real estate investment and state housing issues.

MAHB files police report over online investment portal posting

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has made a police report over a post on an online investment portal which it described as “baseless and untrue.”

The article titled, “MOH sold, and Malaysia for sale? MYEG Bhd sponsored the BP Healthcare and MAHB COVID-19 scam endorsed by DG Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah?” was posted on the community blog of the klse.i3investor.com portal on July 3, 2021.

“The police report was made on the basis that allegations made in the posting are not only baseless and untrue but also malicious in nature with the intention of damaging the reputation and integrity of MAHB and its group chief executive officer,” the airports operator said in a statement today.

Along with the police report, MAHB said it also filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, as well as issued a cease and desist letter to the owner of the portal to demand that the offending article be removed.

“We are also demanding the author desist from making any further statements on the matter,” it said, adding that MAHB viewed the matter seriously “as the posting has brought disrepute to our organisation and lowered our image in the eyes of the public and stakeholders.”

The post has since been removed from the portal.
