Sabin Vaccine Institute Receives $10M Grant to Raise Confidence in Vaccines

Three-year Grant to Support New Global Vaccine Acceptance and Demand Initiative

WASHINGTON, March 12, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Sabin Vaccine Institute (Sabin) today announced it has received a three-year grant valued at $10.4 million to strengthen vaccine acceptance. In 2019, the World Health Organization identified vaccine hesitancy – the reluctance or refusal to vaccinate despite the availability of vaccines – as one of the top 10 threats to global health.

Funding provided through a National Philanthropic Trust grant will launch Sabin’s new Vaccine Acceptance and Demand initiative and support several program areas: educating media and health care professionals on vaccines and immunization, supporting community-level social and behavioral research to understand vaccine acceptance and hesitancy, and enhancing understanding of social media influence on vaccination decisions.

The initiative is led by Sabin Global Immunization President Dr. Bruce Gellin who commented, “Vaccine hesitancy is creating a global health risk that must be addressed. Misinformation and disinformation about vaccines cost lives daily in communities around the world, as witnessed during the ongoing global measles resurgence. Through Sabin’s role at the intersection of immunization programs, policy and research, we will partner with local researchers, national immunization programs and other global health organizations to build evidence and provide the resources, connections and information stakeholders need to reverse this dangerous trend.”

Sabin CEO Amy Finan said, “Building on Sabin’s past work, our new Vaccine Acceptance and Demand initiative will expand the depth and breadth of our commitment to provide reliable information about vaccines to media and health professionals, while also expanding our understanding of vaccine acceptance decision making through both social media and social and behavioral research. Our ultimate goal is to build trust in vaccines so that patients are likely to accept vaccines and protect their health, as well as the health of their families and communities.”

Sabin’s Vaccine Acceptance and Demand initiative focuses on three interrelated work streams:

–  Communicate the importance and value of immunization and dispel vaccine misinformation by supporting media and health care professionals through Immunization Advocates. The new funding will expand Sabin’s existing program, which provides timely and accurate immunization information via online resources and tools, in-person workshops and access to knowledgeable immunization experts.

–  Following a successful pilot, launch programming to support researchers in low- and middle-income countries to improve vaccination acceptance through social and behavioral interventions with research grants and capacity-building activities. This work leverages Sabin’s existing Vaccination Acceptance Research Network.

–  Improve understanding of social media influence on vaccination decisions by working with social media researchers to define priorities and test interventions, with the goal of increasing vaccination acceptance.

Study: Operator-Sponsored RCS Will Win Consumer Hearts and Brand Budgets

New findings reveal consumer appetite for advanced messaging functionality, but operators must place privacy, security and person-to-person functionality at the core of new messaging services

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., March 12, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The United States is a market primed for operator-sponsored, brand- targeted advanced messaging based on Rich Communications Services (RCS), according to focus group conversations conducted by Synchronoss (NASDAQ: SNCR). After bringing together dozens of U.S. consumers of all ages to discuss their mobile messaging habits, Synchronoss is able to show the value of RCS to operators and brands to increase subscriber engagement and create new revenue.

RCS is an easy-to-use, feature-rich, interactive cross-operator advanced messaging platform that will be available on all mobile devices. This evolution of operator-led SMS messaging not only incorporates advanced multimedia capabilities into text messages but also gives users the ability to accomplish everything they currently do across multiple apps from a single messaging platform and with a single contact list for friends, family and services.

RCS also serves as a powerful, private-by-design direct marketing ecosystem that operators can offer to brands. Brands will be able to leverage a new secure, permission-based, personalized communications channel and take advantage of SMS’s higher open, response and click-through rates. At the same time, operators will gain an opportunity to grow their revenue outside of traditional lines of business and further solidify their own reputations as protectors of subscriber privacy.

Synchronoss, a global leader and innovator of cloud, messaging, digital and IoT products and the provider behind the RCS-based +Message service launched by three major Japanese operators in May 2018, asked focus group participants about their current messaging behavior and introduced them to RCS capabilities. The resulting discussions demonstrated a clear demand for operator-sponsored RCS, with convenience and operator trust at the heart of participants’ excitement for this new form of mobile communication.

“When asked about their perception of messaging services today, participants perceive a clear distinction between ‘messaging’ and ‘texting’,” said Glenn Lurie, President and CEO, Synchronoss. “‘Messaging’ is reserved for messaging applications, such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp or Instagram, while ‘texting’ is considered to sit outside of this messaging arena and is a different activity entirely. For consumers, texting is foolproof.”

For operators, this is good news. While consumers may use multiple messaging applications for different purposes, nearly everyone texts and they text a lot. Consumers trust traditional texting service because they consider it secure and reliable, and they know their personal contacts all have access to texting – which isn’t necessarily the case with messaging apps. In fact, the most commonly used messaging app is the native, pre-loaded application that integrates both SMS and device-centric messaging services, such as iMessage or Android Messages. This preference for and trust in SMS demonstrates a clear opportunity for operator-sponsored RCS to build on the allegiance consumers already have to text messaging.

RCS capabilities are wide-ranging. They include basic person-to-person chat as well as “mobile-app”-like experiences, such as booking and scheduling services or purchasing goods directly from the RCS application. Focus group members were receptive to the idea of living their digital lives in a single, one-stop messaging application that includes friends, family and favorite brands. They liked the prospect of being able to eliminate multiple apps and streamline their mobile communications into one all-encompassing tool. This removes the user-friction caused by the sometimes clunky and inconvenient separate messaging apps and the tendency of those apps to occupy a lot of device memory.

In addition to gaining a better understanding of consumers’ mobile messaging preferences, the research also produced some key findings for operators.

“Three lessons emerged from our research,” said Lurie. “First, operators must prioritize person-to-person communications to ensure RCS is seen as an app used for day-to-day texting as well as messaging. Second, operators should quickly launch application-to-person functionality to make it easy for consumers to control interactions with the brands they like. And finally, operators must prioritize privacy and security so that RCS becomes the app consumers trust for everything. RCS is an incredible opportunity for operators and brands. Consumers love its capabilities, and brands love its potential as a safe, engaging marketing channel.”

The findings from the focus groups can be found in a whitepaper entitled ‘How operator-sponsored RCS can win consumer hearts and brand budgets’, and can be downloaded here: https://synchronoss.com/operator-sponsored-rcs/

Introducing Auth0 Signals: Threat Intelligence to Protect Customers from Widespread Identity Cyberattacks

Auth0 acquires Apility.io to integrate IP reputation in Anomaly Detection capabilities; and launches Auth0 IP Signals, a free standalone API for public use

BELLEVUE, Wash., March 12, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Auth0, the identity platform for application builders, today launched Auth0 Signals, a collection of threat intelligence tools and product capabilities designed to protect customers from identity attacks. Auth0’s acquisition of Apility.io, an anti-abuse company, provides a crucial source of IP threat intelligence to Auth0’s Anomaly Detection engine, which detects malicious and risky login traffic to protect customers from automated attacks, such as credential stuffing and fake account creation. Auth0 IP Signals is a free tool available for anyone to use, and will be fully integrated into Auth0’s core authentication platform in Q2 2020.

Auth0 Signals provide important new sources of threat intelligence to Auth0’s Anomaly Detection engine, which already thwarts attacks from more than 50,000 unique IP addresses every day. The continual analysis of numerous risk signals – such as IP reputation, use of breached passwords, and failed authentication volume – assesses the risk of a transaction, login attempt, or session. The collective data gathered from Auth0 Signals produces a Confidence Score that Auth0’s platform then uses to prompt adaptive authentication, or intelligent and dynamic enforcement of controls, such as multi-factor authentication or blacklisting, based on risk.

Auth0 IP Signals is a curated and constantly updated IP address reputation search engine and API. Its threat database is constantly maintained via a variety of data sources across the web and deep web, including Open Source Intelligence (OSINT). It provides security practitioners with a comprehensive way to proactively identify fraudulent IP addresses and verify IP and email reputation, which can be used to prevent credential stuffing attacks and synthetic account creation. These types of attacks result in an average of more than $6 million a year in costs per company. Auth0 IP Signals is an extension of the company’s history of providing valuable resources for free to its loyal developer community.

“Security and availability are the top priority for our business. We integrated the Auth0 IP Signals API in just hours, and it started blocking abuse right away,” said Guillermo Rauch, CEO of ZEIT. “Auth0 Signals helps us ensure a great service to our customers, and helps save money and resources. The best part is that it continues to improve behind-the-scenes on its own.”

Gartner has introduced a Trusted Identity Corroboration Model (TICM) in its September 2019 Market Guide for Identity Proofing and Corroboration. According to Gartner, “TICM is a conceptual framework that assists SRM (Security & Risk Management) leaders to choose a set of tools and techniques that maximizes the collection of multiple risk indicators to identify fraudulent and malicious activity during account creation, access, and maintenance.” Further, “the continued reliance on static data, public records, or credit bureau data alone to either establish or substantiate trust in an identity is no longer simply unadvisable; it has become negligence. Likewise, a refusal to invest in the gathering and assessment of negative and positive signals puts the burden of security on customers, which is increasingly unacceptable in a world that demands frictionless and secure interactions with businesses and organizations.”1

As a central authentication and security service securing more than 100 million logins every day for enterprises around the globe, Auth0 has a unique vantage point for observing trends, where they originate from, and more importantly, knowing how to identify and block them before any damage is done. Recent internal data from Auth0 revealed that up to 67% of traffic going through Auth0 at any given time is suspicious, and 6% of IPs sending traffic to Auth0 are known to be blacklisted on the web, yet they are sending 50% of the total traffic to Auth0. Auth0 Signals will help block that fraudulent traffic from breaking into users’ accounts.

“Credential stuffing, password spraying, phishing, and other malicious attempts are constantly multiplying, and customers need more risk signals than any one company can provide, which is why we’ve created Auth0 Signals,” said Matias Woloski, CTO and co-founder of Auth0. “We have always been a developer-centric company, and wanted to provide a free resource to the application builder community for added value and security. By inserting threat intelligence and risk analysis into the IAM system, we’re reducing identity attack opportunities, offering a frictionless experience, and saving critical time and money for our customers.”

Apility.io is Auth0’s first acquisition, bolstering the company’s security strategy to protect against automated cyberattacks, and underscoring its focus on best security practices to keep customers’ information safe and their experiences seamless.

Additional Auth0 Signals threat intelligence tools will be launched in 2020, and will be freely available to security practitioners for proactive abuse prevention and incident investigation. To learn more, please visit: http://auth0.com/signals/ip.

Philips becomes first medical device manufacturer granted new Underwriters Laboratories product cybersecurity testing firm registration

March 12, 2020

Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, today announced that the company was named the first medical device manufacturer to receive a new Underwriters Laboratories (UL) product cybersecurity testing certification. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is an independent global safety certification and testing company with locations worldwide.

The UL IEC 62304 certification was designed by Underwriters Laboratories to provide an overall framework to evaluate the robustness and maturity of a medical device manufacturer’s cybersecurity controls and capabilities for product development.

In support of the successful Philips firm registration for the security option of IEC 62304, UL performed a comprehensive audit of the Philips Security Center of Excellence. The Center was launched in 2015 to develop cyber-resilient products and services through security-by-design, risk assessment, vulnerability and penetration assessment, specialized trainings, and incident response.

The audit reviewed and verified core Philips product security processes, including security risk management and risk control measures, software security verification planning, change management and continuous improvement, and the Center’s laboratory quality management system.

The UL certification combines cybersecurity testing elements of the established UL 2900-2-1 standard for Software Cybersecurity for Network-Connectable Products, which focuses on the demanding requirements of healthcare and wellness systems, as well as security principles from international standards (ISO 13485 and ISO 14971).

“To receive this certification from Underwriters Laboratories, a long-established global leader in standards creation and safety testing, is a strong validation of our program and an opportunity to advance healthcare and personal health product security even further,” said Michael McNeil, Global Product Security & Services Officer, Philips.

“We’ve spent years building a successful and effective end-to-end Security by Design program, embedding security principles and best practices throughout a product’s life cycle,” McNeil added. “At Philips, we understand that our customers have high and growing expectations for the security of the solutions that they rely on. In addition, global regulatory authorities have also increased the scope and scale of product cybersecurity compliance requirements to help protect patients and consumers. We look forward to continuing to meet these critical commitments.”

VistaJet Reports Record 2019 Results and Is Cautiously Optimistic for 2020 Despite the Unique Challenges Currently Faced Globally

VistaJet Global 6000

VistaJet Global 6000

The leading business aviation company records a 16% increase in flights on the back of a strong 2019 performance thanks to its proven business model

  • The Company recorded a strong start during first 10 weeks of 2020, notwithstanding the challenges posed by the coronavirus
  • Program membership in the U.S. continued to grow, registering a 24% increase
  • Particularly strong results in the Middle East with Members up 26%, flight hours up 24% and passengers up 35%
  • As part of Vista Global Holding, the Company is set to continue to take advantage of the fragmented business aviation sector with its global network of 115 owned business jets and over 1,700 aviation experts

LONDON, March 12, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — VistaJet, the first and only global business aviation company, starts 2020 with a market update amid the unique set of challenges posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) as well as a recap of its solid growth during 2019 and the successes for the year.

The Company, with operations based in Malta, has made a positive start to 2020 as customers seek VistaJet’s commitment to security, flexibility of travel and privacy, which are not guaranteed by any other type of transport during times of instability. Early figures from January 2020 through today highlight that VistaJet’s total number of flights increased by a further 16% YOY and the Company continues to see strong demand across all regions. The U.S. registered the greatest number of flights during the first two months of the year, making up 23% of global flights. Despite the deep impact of the virus spreading across Asia, demand from the continent remains stable at 11%.

To safeguard passengers and crew, the Company has taken additional steps along with its partners to further strengthen safety and security procedures every day. Dedicated Flight Approval and Coordination teams are working 24/7 to assess and approve any booking and change requests from a technical, safety and security standpoint. To help reduce the spread of the virus, VistaJet works with leading experts, including Control Risks and Osprey for security and safety advice using both human and AI-driven intelligence, while MedAire provides leading medical support on the ground and in the air. All crew are checked for signs of the virus twice a day and each VistaJet aircraft is sanitized after every flight. As a precautionary measure, should authorities determine that a COVID-19 carrier traveled on a VistaJet aircraft, that tail and crew will be temporarily withdrawn from use. For upcoming bookings, passengers may be required to complete additional travel documents and health certificates, and those who have recently traveled to high risk locations may have their temperature tested prior to boarding.

Thomas Flohr, VistaJet’s and Vista Global’s Founder and Chairman, said:
“As the events of the last few months show, 2020 is not set to be business as usual. I have no doubt that the strong increase recorded over the past 10 weeks includes fliers looking for safer and cleaner alternatives to commercial flying. The agility and flexibility at the foundation of VistaJet ensure we are well-prepared to address the impact that the spread of coronavirus is having on the world.

“Above all else, the maximum safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is my utmost priority. The ever-changing developments associated with the coronavirus have guided us to find intelligent and innovative ways to step up to the challenge. We have been monitoring and adapting to the outbreak since the first cases were reported in late 2019, and we are working daily with experts and authorities to update our standards as the situation evolves.”

The Company’s 2020 pipeline comes on the back of a strong 2019, during which VistaJet made significant progress on its core strategic priorities and grew market share worldwide with a 21% growth in its Program membership.

Consistent with historical corporate trends, VistaJet increased its number of flights and passengers by double digits in 2019. Its new fleet optimization strategy catalyzed growth also during the low season of the first half, increasing global flights by 12% compared to the same time the previous year. Q3 2019 remained the most popular quarter, responsible for 28% of journeys.

The opening of a dedicated Middle East office drove the region to record the largest growth for the Company across number of flights, passengers and new clients joining the VistaJet Program — surging by 24%, 35% and 26% respectively. The UAE registered the majority of flights in the region and saw a 21% increase in flights, trailed only by Saudi for regional flights, which experienced a 41% growth.

The VistaJet Program model remained a favorable solution for U.S. based customers, recording a rise of 24% in the number of memberships in the market, while Asia’s membership grew by 6%, with China, India and Singapore leading the charge. Europe recorded an 11% growth in flight hours against 2018 figures and increased its Members in the market by 23%. The UK alone accounted for 24% of VistaJet’s flights in the region, proving that despite political uncertainties, the country continues to be a focus for global and European business.

VistaJet continued to lead the industry’s innovation and service, introducing more programs designed to elevate the experience for all clients. A new flight safety program launched at the beginning of the year pushed flight operations software to new heights with the adoption of Osprey Flight Solution’s data-led risk assessment technology. A partnership with Scuderia Ferrari as the official supplier of private jet travel throughout the Formula One season highlighted VistaJet’s promise of maximum speed and efficiency. The introduction of VistaPet, the leading global pet travel program in the aviation industry, set the high-water mark for four-legged passengers. The Company also announced VistaJet World — a comprehensive portfolio of one-of-a-kind, multi-tops travel adventure tailored around each Member’s passions.

VistaJet’s announcement, that it will be the first to get access to a fleet of Global 7500 aircraft starting in 2020, coupled with the synergies derived from Vista Global’s launch of XO, the global private aviation marketplace, ensures that the Company continues to be the leading asset-light alternative to aircraft ownership.

Thomas Flohr continues:
“VistaJet’s solutions are particularly attractive in times of uncertainty. The last 12 months were yet another milestone for the Company, Vista Global and XO; and I am proud of what we have achieved and that we continue to spearhead the industry in service excellence, innovation and global infrastructure. We begin 2020 positively during the first 10 weeks and I am looking forward to continuing to offer the best business aviation solution in this industry.”
