Court-Supervised Process Has No Impact on Safety or Functionality of Algovita Device; Company Continuing to Support Physicians

PLANO, Texas, Nov. 12, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Nuvectra Corporation (NASDAQ: NVTR) (“Nuvectra” or the “Company”), a neurostimulation medical device company, today announced that it has elected to file a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas (the “Court”). The Company intends to use this Court-supervised process to continue its review of a range of options to maximize value and address its financial obligations. The Board of Directors and management team continue to believe that the Company and its assets have considerable value and are exploring a range of options, including a sale of the Company as a whole, of the Algovita Spinal Cord Stimulation System (“Algovita”), of Virtis® or of specified assets.

Furthermore, Nuvectra is committed to supporting existing patients using Algovita, as well as the physicians, clinicians and facilities treating patients with Algovita. The safety and functionality of Algovita will not be impacted by the Court-supervised process. The Company is currently suspending its support of future implants until the Company’s path forward is determined and recommends physicians cease any new implantations, as well as trial procedures and clinical studies in progress, until that time.

Family course for newly married youth in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, The Selangor government has called on newly married youth, aged 40 and below, in the state, to enrol in a family course that will allow them to receive an incentive of RM300 per person, beginning January next year.

State Youth Generation Development, Sports and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the course, held under the Selangor Youth Generation Incentive (iGems) programme, was being implemented to address divorce cases among young couples in the state.

The programme is also aimed at providing an incentive of RM300 per person to applicants who meet the requirements stipulated other than this is their first marriage.

The course covers aspects of financial and emotional management and parenting skills that will be emphasised to meet today’s demands, he told reporters at the lobby of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

He said applicants (only the Selangor-born and those who have lived in the state are eligible to participate), who tied the knot on Sept 1, 2018, until Dec 31, 2019, application could be submitted online on http://igems.yawas.my/web/ and they have until June 31, 2020, to do so.

For those who will be tying the knot from Jan 1, 2020, onwards, applications are only allowed within six months from the date of the marriage, he said.

SIRIM offers expertise, technology to industries, SME in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Selangor are encouraged to use the expertise and technology provided by Kumpulan SIRIM Bhd (formerly known as Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) to improve the quality of their products as well as to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0).

State Investment, Industry and Commerce, and Small and Medium Enterprises Committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim said the move is important for SME entrepreneurs in Selangor to keep pace with the current technological developments and to compete in the future.

To stay relevant, companies are encouraged to keep abreast of new technologies by investing in three areas, namely automation, talent and skills development, as well as innovation.

SIRIM is ready to play an important role in supporting the state’s industrial development goals through skills development and human capital development, he said at the SIRIM-Industry Engagement Programme here today.

Also present were SIRIM vice-president (strategic planning) Goay Peck Sim and Invest Selangor Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris.

Teng said the federal government had allocated RM210 million starting this year until 2021 to support local SMEs to migrate to IR 4.0.

According to him, the Malaysian Productivity Corporation will carry out a Readiness Assessment to help up to 500 SMEs to migrate to IR4.0 technology.

The Industry 4.0 Readiness Assessment (Industry4WRD-RA) is a comprehensive programme to help firms evaluate their capabilities and readiness to adopt the IR 4.0 technologies and processes, he said.

Meanwhile, SIRIM president and group chief executive Prof Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani, in his speech read out by Goay, said it has collaborated with a German research organisation, Fraunhofer Institute, to help boost the development of local SMEs.

He said the strategic collaboration encompassed a technology audit programme in the field of technology applications to help SME entrepreneurs understand their own strengths and weaknesses and improve their companies.

The findings of this audit will help them to formulate action plans to increase productivity, technology management capabilities and value chains. It is also useful to help the company to become more competitive and productive.

As of November, a total of 831 SME entrepreneurs have participated in the programme and out of that 251 are from Selangor. This has made the state the most active programme recipients, he said.

He said SIRIM has also provided services in IR 4.0, Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), green environment, technology-based companies and the aerospace sector.

He said that in promoting technology among local entrepreneurs, SIRIM has also introduced the usage of the internet of things (IoT).

For example, SIRIM has helped stingless bee farmers to increase their kelulut honey production without the use of chemical pesticide.

Under our technology commercialisation initiative, SIRIM has successfully commercialised technologies such as anti-fungal products, LPG composite tanks and introduced new products such as synthetic bone that are widely used in the field of dentistry, he said.

About 200 representatives from government agencies, industry associations and entrepreneurs in Selangor have participated in the SIRIM-Industry Engagement Programme which emphasised the importance of research and development, manpower management, quality, training, testing and certification.

PSEE Exemption for handicapped to serve in public sector

KUALA LUMPUR, The handicapped group now no longer has to sit for the Public Service Entry Exam (PSEE) to become a civil servant, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law), Mohamed Hanipa Maidin.

According to him, the exemption was made after May as a government measure to encourage more participation by the handicapped in the public service sector and simultaneously realise the aspiration of involving one per cent of the group in the sector.

”A study found that, all these while many handicapped could not get work because they could not pass the examination (PSEE). So, we make a decision to exempt them and after this, I am confident, the one per cent target can be met,” he said.

He said this when answering to a question from Datuk Rosol Wahid (PH-Hulu Terengganu) at Dewan Rakyat who asked Prime Minister to state the government’s move to encourage the participations of the handicapped as government servants.

At the same time, the Public Service Commission (SPA) too had taken the measure to impose the minimum conditions to handicapped candidates based on the conditions of employment in the service schemes.

Mohamed Hanipa said statistics from the Public Service Department (JPA) showed that as of June 30, the number of the handicapped in the public service was 3,686 officers or 0.29 per cent.
