U Mobile makes foray into biz segment with GoOffice

KUALA LUMPUR, U Mobile is teaming up with Microsoft to launch GoOffice voice, a data and office application package in its bid to tap into the small and medium enterprise (SME) segment.

U Mobile’s chief marketing officer Jasmine Lee said the mobile telecommunication service provider had been very focused on its consumer business previously and is now keen to tap on the new segment among the SMEs, startups and micro-businesses.

“We realise there is a big opportunity here (business segment) because of the now more than seven million U Mobile customers, 70 per cent are millennials.

“Among these users, some are keen to do their business either on Instagram shop, hijab or food businesses, she told reporters after launching GoOffice here, today.

Lee said there are also opportunities for U Mobile on the small size-online media, travel agents and publications to support their on-the-go operations.

“Malaysia is also a hub for regional business and many Malaysian companies expanded regionally. So roaming is important when they are on-the-go,” she added.

With a price of RM238, GoOffice bundle features– Microsoft Office 365 Business, one principle postpaid line with unlimited voice and data and two supplementary postpaid lines with an unlimited voice as well as 6GB high-speed data.

The package also includes Roam-Onz data, which enables roaming in 12 destinations.

U Mobile welcome distributors interested to be resellers for the package, adding that at the moment, there are 50 locations nationwide providing support for Microsoft Office, said Lee.

Toshiba memory corporation showcases CM6 Series SSDs at Flash Memory Summit, USA

KUALA LUMPUR, Toshiba Memory Corporation, the world leader in memory solutions has developed the industry’s fastest-class, PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs for enterprise applications.

The device has achieved a sequential read performance of over 6.4GB/s, according to a statement.

A reference display and a demo of the new CM6 Series SSDs will be showcased at Toshiba Memory America’s booth at the Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara, USA until Aug 8.

It supports dual-port PCIeGen4 x4 lanes and is NVMe 1.4 compliant. The family of enterprise NVMe SSDs will be available in a 2.5-inch form factor with capacity points from 800GB to 30TB.

MyCreative ventures appoints Mohd Naguib as new chairman

KUALA LUMPUR, MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd, a government investment arm, has announced the appointment of Mohd Naguib Razak as its new Chairman effective Aug 6.

Naguib is currently the founder and chief executive officer of Resonance Media Group of Companies, a joint venture comprising stakeholders in Tokyo, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.

He had been working closely with private equity specialists, asset managers and investment bankers in the United States, the Middle East and Asia, as well as Japanese IP aggregators, and Hollywood professionals.

Naguib has been developing resonance media into an international film financing, Internet protocol (IP) aggregation and production company with a range of animation, television and film projects in Tokyo, London and Los Angeles, MyCreative said in statement.

It also said that Naguib had the distinction of being the former director general of FINAS from 2011- 2012.

MyCreative was incorporated in 2012 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Minister of Finance (Incorporated), reporting to the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia.

Willis Lease Finance Corporation records US$21.8 million pre-tax profit

KUALA LUMPUR, Willis Lease Finance Corporation reported pre-tax profit of US$21.8 million and total revenue of US$95.8 million in the second quarter of 2019. (US$1 = RM4.19)

Its pre-tax results were driven by continued revenue growth in core leasing business and spare part sales, as well as gains associated with the active management of its portfolio, according to a statement.

Our business continues to deliver in all verticals, producing strong cash flow and profitability, which we believe is an indication that the market recognises the value of the entire Willis Platform, said chairman and chief executive officer, Charles F. Willis.

Among the highlights include lease rent revenue amounting to US$45 million (4.5 per cent growth); quarterly maintenance reserve revenue of US$26.5 million (increased by US$4.4 million), and, spare parts and equipment sales of US$14.6 million (increased 25.2 per cent).

As of June 30, the company had a total lease portfolio consisting of 241 engines, 12 aircraft, 10 other leased parts and equipment, and one marine vessel with a net book value of US$1.6 billion.

Willis Lease Finance Corporation leases large and regional spare commercial aircraft engines, auxiliary power units and aircraft to airlines, aircraft engine manufacturers and maintenance, repair and overhaul providers in 120 countries.

Proton launches the 2019 Saga

KUALA LUMPUR, August 7 (Bernama) — Proton Holdings Bhd has launched the 2019 Saga, officiated by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking.

Priced at RM32,800 (Standard MT), RM35,800 (Standard AT) and RM39,800 (Premium AT), the updated version of Proton’s iconic and best-selling model has received styling revisions, a brand new four-speed automatic gearbox and first-in-class smart features that not only set it apart from its competitors but also raises its value proposition.

Similar to the Proton X70 and 2019 Iriz, Persona and Exora, the 2019 Saga offers Extra Value packages, Proton Holdings said in a statement today.

There are three standard Extra Value packages, beginning with the service package that offers free labour services thrice or for one year.

Next is the interest rate package with financing rates as low as 2.98 per cent per annum.

Finally, the 2019 Saga also has an insurance package that offers a number of benefits to customers who insure their new purchase with Proton’s panel of insurers.

Combined with the price reduction and the value of the new features introduced in each variant, the 2019 Saga 1.3L Premium AT delivers RM3,747 worth of additional benefits compared to its predecessor.
