cPacket Networks to Offer Cloud Visibility Service with Amazon Virtual Private Cloud Traffic Mirroring

New cCloud Solution Provides Customers Access to Network-Level Packet Data for Performance and Security Monitoring

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — cPacket Networks, a leading provider of next-generation network performance/security monitoring and packet brokering solutions, has launched the cCloud cloud-based network visibility-as-a-service (VaaS) offering by working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and leveraging the traffic mirroring feature offered by Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC).

“While many of our customers are migrating workloads to the cloud, until now it happened to be a black-box for them, from a performance and security perspective. The cPacket solution builds on Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) traffic mirroring to remove blind spots, provide complete visibility, and make the cloud transition smooth for our customers,” said Brendan O’Flaherty, CEO of cPacket Networks.

Without the rich insights of packet data, full visibility is compromised as today’s log-based tools have several limitations. The traffic mirroring service is a new feature available as part of Amazon VPC, designed to more easily provide deep network traffic visibility. Traffic mirroring duplicates the traffic from Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2)  instances within an Amazon VPC and forwards it to performance and security monitoring tools. Because traffic mirroring is built in Amazon VPC, it removes the need for AWS customers to deploy an ad-hoc forwarding agent in each of their Amazon VPCs for every monitoring tool they have. cPacket cCloud allows deep inspection, threat investigation, performance, and capacity planning.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to Acquire Canadair Regional Jet Program from Bombardier Inc.

  • MHI now positioned to transform and lead the underserved regional jet business, with bolstered customer support services
  • Key step in MHI’s strategy of expanding its aircraft business globally, with a mid-term focus on North America
  • Completes Bombardier’s aerospace transformation and refocus on business aviation

TOKYO and MONTRÉAL, June 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd (MHI) (TOKYO:7011) and Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBD.B) announced today they have entered into a definitive agreement, whereby MHI will acquire Bombardier’s regional jet program for a cash consideration of $550 million USD, payable to Bombardier upon closing, and the assumption by MHI of liabilities amounting to approximately $200 million USD. Under the agreement, Bombardier’s net beneficial interest in the Regional Aircraft Securitization Program (RASPRO), which is valued at approximately $180 million USD, will be transferred to MHI.

Pursuant to the agreement, MHI will acquire the maintenance, support, refurbishment, marketing, and sales activities for the CRJ Series aircraft, including the related services and support network located in Montréal, Québec, and Toronto, Ontario, and its service centres located in Bridgeport, West Virginia, and Tucson, Arizona, as well as the type certificates.

This acquisition is complementary to MHI’s existing commercial aircraft business, in particular the development, production, sales and support of the Mitsubishi SpaceJet commercial aircraft family. The maintenance and engineering capabilities of the CRJ program will further enhance critical customer support functions, a strategic business area for MHI in the pursuit of future growth.

The CRJ production facility in Mirabel, Québec will remain with Bombardier. Bombardier will continue to supply components and spare parts and will assemble the current CRJ backlog on behalf of MHI. CRJ production is expected to conclude in the second half of 2020, following the delivery of the current backlog of aircraft.

Bombardier will also retain certain liabilities representing a portion of the credit and residual value guarantees totaling approximately $400 million USD. This amount is fixed and not subject to future changes in aircraft value, and payable by Bombardier over the next four years.

The transaction is currently expected to close during the first half of 2020 and remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

The agreement contemplates a reverse break fee payable by MHI under certain circumstances.

Investment to Accelerate WorkForce Software’s Global Expansion and Commitment to Customer-First Innovation

34th ASEAN Summit end on a positive note

BANGKOK, It was a marathon of meetings for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the oldest statesman in ASEAN and also in the world during his working visit to Bangkok, Thailand in conjunction with the 34th ASEAN Summit last weekend, which ended on a positive note.

Leading the Malaysian delegation, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir, who will turn 94 in July and was one of the earliest ASEAN leaders to arrive in Bangkok last Thursday for the 34th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, said he had fruitful meetings during the four-day working visit to the kingdom.

While he had back-to back dialogues and meetings during the working visit, he was happy as ‘quite a lot of things’ were achieved at this edition of the ASEAN Summit.

Sunday started with the 34th ASEAN Summit opening ceremony and ASEAN Summit retreat followed by the 13th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and 12th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).

On the same day, Dr Mahathir had bilateral trade meeting with his counterpart General Prayuth Chan o-cha to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two neighbors as well as the peace process in southern Thailand.

The prime minister and nine other heads of government and heads of state attended the ASEAN Summit Plenary session as well as interfaces with representatives of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Youth and ASEAN Business Advisory Council (Asean-BAC) and a roundtable meeting with Thailand’s captains of industry on Saturday.

Trade and growing economies as well as greater cooperation among the member countries were among the top agenda at the summit in the midst of a trade war between the world’s two largest economies � China and the United States.

The no-nonsense politician raised few issues during the summit which included boosting intra ASEAN trade volume which is relatively small now.

The 10 ASEAN countries had a growing population of about 650 million, and the market was huge and its potential was enormous, he said.

He said the ASEAN market that formed about 25 per cent of overall trade was comparable to other groups like the European Union and North American Union where trade amounted between 45 and 50 percent.

Dr Mahathir said it was high time ASEAN members made special efforts including streamlining procedures, processes and laws to boost intra ASEAN trade and identify goods and products that can be produced within the region for ASEAN-produced products to reduce imports from outside the region.

The visionary leader proposed the introduction of an e-commerce tax in Asean as the online businesses had ‘swallowed’ conventional businesses and reduced tax revenues in the member countries.

During the summit, Malaysia and other ASEAN member countries also reiterated their strong commitment to concluding the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations this year to reinvigorate international trade and to maintain ASEAN credibility and centrality.

The Chairman’s statement of the 34th ASEAN Summit called for relevant ASEAN partners to prioritise the RCEP negotiations and to work with ASEAN to conclude the RCEP negotiations within this year.

Dr Mahathir said he was optimistic that the RCEP would be concluded and Malaysia was willing to conclude the RCEP without India for the time being.

RCEP is a proposed free trade agreement between 10 ASEAN member countries and six Asia Pacific nations, namely Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand. The bloc have missed the target to sign RCEP quite a number of times however, the just concluded ASEAN summit saw all member countries being committed to conclude it by year-end.

Rohingya crisis is one of the issues raised during the summit. Malaysia and Indonesia were among the few members of ASEAN to speak up for the minority.

The presence of Dr Mahathir in the Asean summit also grabbed attention from the local and foreign media especially when he had to stand next to Myanmar’s leader Aung San Syu Kyi during the traditional Asean handshake of the leaders as both leaders are not in the same page on Rohingya crisis.

When asked whether he raised the matter with Suu Kyi, Dr Mahathir did not comment if he had any personal conversation with the leader. In jest, he replied she sat next to me, according to the alphabetical order. She also sat next to me at the dining table.

At the summit, Dr Mahathir also raised concern about the safety of the refugees to return to Myanmar as most of them feared that they would be tortured and imprisoned. He urged the international monitoring bodies to ensure the Rohingya refugees’ safety.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Chairman’s statement said all leaders expressed continued support for Myanmar’s commitment to ensure safety and security for all communities in the Rakhine State as effectively as possible and facilitate the voluntary return of displaced persons in a safe, secure and dignified manner.

It said the leaders were looking forward to the full implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Myanmar, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and effective dialogue between Myanmar and Bangladesh to facilitate the repatriation process of displaced persons from Rakhine State.

We stressed the need to find a comprehensive and durable solution to address the root causes of the conflict and to create a conducive environment so that the affected communities can rebuild their lives, said the statement.

Themed Advancing Partnership for Sustainability, the summit discussed various initiatives to realize the dreams set to benefit the people of ASEAN.

The 34th ASEAN Summit ended with its World Cup dreams when Prayuth said ASEAN would launch a joint bid to host the biggest sporting event on earth – FIFA World Cup in 2034, a first for the region.

Five gang members arrested following gunshot incident

SHAH ALAM, The police have arrested five suspects believed to be members of a secret society after one of them fired a shot into the air during an incident in front of a restaurant in Taman Megah Park here, last Wednesday (June 19).

Shah Alam District Police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said in the 11.30pm incident, a group of individuals comprising a couple and three men were drinking alcohol outside the restaurant.

He said several other patrons at the restaurant reprimanded them for the unruly behaviour, and this resulted in a misunderstanding and quarreling between the two groups.

“During the quarrel, none of the parties suffered any injury. However, one of the secret society members brought out a CZ Compact semi-automatic pistol made in the Czech Republic from a four-wheel drive vehicle, containing live ammunition.

“The suspect then released a gunshot into the air believed to serve as a warning. It was learned that some of the customers in the restaurant knew the members of the group,” he said in a press conference, here today.

Baharuddin said based on the information, the police raided a house in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya at 11 pm on Thursday and detained the main suspect, namely the man who fired the shot, as well as his wife.

He said checks on the four-wheel drive vehicle revealed a pistol containing two live bullets in a bag, believed to be the weapon used during the incident.

He said at first, the suspect claimed the vehicle belonged to his father-in-law, but further checks found another 22 9-millimetre bullets in a plastic laid on the table in the living room of the house.

“After interrogating the 34-year-old man, the police arrested three other acquaintances who were with him during the incident, in nearby areas.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, who worked at a telecommunications company, bought the pistol in southern Thailand for RM3,000. The interrogation also found that these five individuals are believed to be actively involved in secret society activities in Kuala Lumpur, and currently trying to ‘expand’ their influence in Selangor, ” he said.

He added that all the suspects aged between 23 and 34 were remanded for seven days until Thursday and were investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
