BAHAMAS MINISTRY OF TOURISM AND AVIATION DIRECTOR GENERAL JOY JIBRILU HONORED WITH CARIBBEAN TOURISM ORGANIZATION’S ALLIED AWARD

Jibrilu became the first Bahamian member of the Caribbean Tourism Organization to receive the Allied Award for sustainable development at Caribbean Week New York

Plantation, FL, June 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Last night during the Caribbean Tourism Industry Awards Dinner and Fashion Show, part of the annual Caribbean Week New York events, Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation Director General Joy Jibrilu received the distinguished Allied Award for her exceptional work towards the sustainable development of Caribbean tourism.

Director General Jibrilu was present at the ceremony at the Wyndham New Yorker in Midtown to accept the award bestowed upon her by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and its Allied Members. Mrs. Jibrilu is the first Bahamian member of the CTO family to receive the esteemed award.

“I am extremely honored to be receiving the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Allied Award this year,” said Mrs. Jibrilu. “Promoting our spectacular Caribbean region and its sustainability is a personal passion of mine, and its good stewardship is essential for all of us. I am grateful that my colleagues in the tourism industry, and my neighbors in the Caribbean, consider my contributions to have been so worthwhile.”

Established in 2005, the Allied Award is presented to an individual within the CTO who has done an extraordinary job of contributing to the sustainable development of the region. Eligible organizations include members of government, member airlines and cruise lines, and allied members, which includes hotels, tour operators, marketing companies, newspapers, magazines and television programming.

“It is with both respect and admiration that we recognize these business and industry icons for their tireless commitment – often beyond the call of duty – to the development of a sustainable Caribbean tourism product,” said Sylma Brown, Director, CTO-USA.

Throughout her tenure in the government sector, Mrs. Jibrilu has worked diligently to encourage sustainable development and tourism growth for The Islands Of The Bahamas, with a focus on respect to the local environment, culture and people. In her role as Director General, a position appointed to her in May 2014, she has had oversight in the development, marketing and promotion of the Bahamian Tourism Industry’s multi-faceted marketing programs targeting consumers in global markets including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Latin America and Europe.

Prior to this, she served as the Director of Investments in the Bahamas Investment Authority (BIA), Office of the Prime Minister, commencing that role in July 2008.

In both positions, she has been involved in negotiating and implementing some of the largest tourism investment and development projects in the country, including the final phases of the Atlantis Paradise Island mega resort and the multi-billion dollar Baha Mar resort development on Cable Beach.

Director General Jibrilu’s contributions to these major tourism initiatives have brought significant employment and economic opportunity to The Bahamas, and by extension, the Caribbean region. She is passionate about The Bahamas, the Caribbean region and promoting her country, and the region around the world.

“I am a firm believer that we are all guardians of these wonderful islands that many of us get to call home, and as a result, we have an incredible responsibility to promote tourism in the most sustainable manner in order to safeguard the Caribbean for future generations,” Mrs. Jibrilu said.

The Director General was one of nine industry and business professionals, in addition to 12 travel influencers from the media, to be recognized across several award categories during the event. Haitian-American Marlie Hall, an award-winning broadcast journalist and entrepreneur, alongside a former correspondent for CBS News, presided as Master of Ceremonies.

MALAYSIA: MUSLIMS GATHER TO COMMEMORATE AL-QUDS DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia Over 600 Muslims, including politicians, attended a peaceful rally in front of the United States (US) Embassy here yesterday to commemorate the Al-Quds Day in protest against Israeli aggression towards the people in Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem).

The two-hour rally was organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (Mapim), Secretariat for Asia Assembly of Ulama (Shura), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rakyat Sejagat and 60 non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The rally began with a procession from the Tabung Haji Mosque to the embassy after the Friday prayers.

Mapim president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said a special memorandum was handed over to an embassy representative.

He alleged the US was deemed as Israel’s puppet government.

Al-Quds Day is celebrated the world over as a sign of human solidarity against the atrocities of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians, he told reporters here yesterday.

He said about 10 NGOs would meet Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to submit a copy of the memorandum as the Prime Minister had a strong voice and a highly-respected leadership, adding that the new government under Pakatan Harapan could make a difference in resolving the Palestinian issue.

At least 60 Palestinians were killed in a fight with the Israeli forces on May 14, during a protest against the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem.

More than 100 Palestinians perished since March 30 when mass protests took place.

MALAYSIA: CHINA, SINGAPORE VISITS ON THE CARDS – FINANCE MINISTER LIM GUAN ENG

By Nurul Hanis Izmir, M. Saraswathi & Siti Radziah Hamzah

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia The RM9.4 billion gas pipeline project will be among the topics on the table for discussions for the Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s maiden trip to China as part of the new government.

It will be a courtesy visit, said Lim, adding that it would not be solely for the pipeline project or the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) but on the larger bilateral perspective as well.

We will have to decide on the right time and now we are in the midst of celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri. But once Raya break is over, that is the first we would do, he said in an interview with Bernama on Friday.

After taking over the Ministry, Lim revealed dubious projects signed by Suria Strategic Energy Resources Sdn Bhd (SSER) which is suspected to be linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) fiasco.

SSER is a wholly-owned Ministry of Finance subsidiary set up on May 19, 2016 with the specific intent to undertake the Multi-Product Pipeline (MPP) and Trans-Sabah Gas Pipeline (TSGP) projects.

The payments for the said projects made based on timeline milestones and not progressive work done resulted in RM8.3 billion or 88 per cent of the projects’ total value being paid despite only 13 per cent work completion.

Following this, the Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had recently instructed Lim and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officials to go to China to engage in discussions with the parties involved in the MPP and the TSGP projects.

This scandal, Lim noted, was previously discovered in the “red files.

Asked if the Malaysian delegation would discuss the ECRL as well, he said: That will be one of the issues to be discussed.

We are also going to do the same thing with Singapore. Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and myself are going there to talk to our Singapore counterparts regarding the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, which will link the two countries.

We believe that Singapore wants their neighbours to succeed because if they have successful neighbours, I am sure that they also bring benefits to the republic and it has also been our close neighbour for a long time.

As friends you want to prosper thy neighbour. So, we believe Singapore wants to see us.

Among the first things that Dr Mahathir announced when forming the new government was to scrap the HSR project.

It’s not beneficial, it’s going to cost us a huge sum of money. We will make no money at all from the operation. It is just a short track, the Prime Minister had said recently.

Asked about the compensation that needed to be paid, Dr Mahathir said he supposed it would be RM500 million.

Companies can now embed a carousel of images, audio, video and live streaming into their press releases and web pages to tell a more complete brand story and increase engagement with media, investors and customers

OMAHA, Neb., June 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — West Corporation (“West”), a global leader in technology-enabled services, introduces Media Snippets, customizable content modules that can be seamlessly embedded into press releases, blogs and web pages to help companies provide an immersive and information-rich experience for their key stakeholders. Media Snippets also provides insight into social sharing behavior, image downloads and video views so brands can analyze their results, see what content resonates, and understand how their audiences interact with their content.

“Our goal is to continually innovate and enhance our technology to provide clients with tools that allow them to most effectively communicate with their audiences,” said John Shlonsky, CEO of West Corporation. “With Media Snippets we enable compelling content in a feature rich press release published on GlobeNewswire.com, as well as websites managed through West’s webhosting services, including IR websites, newsrooms and corporate websites.
